Just last week a fun little rumor popped up suggesting that indie director and animator Emily Carmichael had met with Marvel about their Captain Marvel solo film. While we wait to see if there’s any truth to that rumor, Carmichael has lined up another major studio project, teaming with Steven Spielberg and Amblin for Powerhouse, a new action flick based on a story by Colin Trevorrow.

We’ve been anxiously waiting for Ava DuVernay to select her next feature film project, and although she passed on Marvel’s Black Panther, the Selma director has remained very busy executive producing, writing and directing the TV series Queen Sugar for Oprah Winfrey’s network — not to mention acquiring films for her ARRAY distribution banner. It looks as though DuVerna may be close to selecting her next feature directing project, as she’s reportedly being courted for not one, but two upcoming sci-fi projects.

Colin Trevorrow Wants to Shoot ‘Star Wars: Episode 9’ in Outer Space
Just recently, Star Wars: Episode 9 director Colin Trevorrow attracted some attention when he said that he wanted to shoot the finale of the current Star Wars trilogy on film rather than digital. But, what’s more interesting perhaps, isn’t what he wants to shoot it with, but where he wants to shoot it. Namely, in outer space.

‘Star Wars: Episode 9’ Will Also Be Shot on Film, Not Digital
In the ongoing battle between film and digital (Film v Digital: Dawn of Justice), there’s one man who will not capitulate to your contemporary technology. Joining the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder, Colin Trevorrow will also remain committed to shooting on film, as the director says he will shoot Star Wars: Episode IX on the classic format instead of digital.

One of the biggest questions we’re left with at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is who are Rey’s parents? There are a few popular theories floating around online, and while we’ll have to wait until Episode 8 or maybe even Episode 9 to get that answer, Colin Trevorrow promises that we won’t be disappointed when Rey’s lineage is revealed.

Colin Trevorrow Responds to Fan Petition to Have Him Replaced as ‘Star Wars’ Director
Earlier this month a group of enterprising Star Wars fans started an online petition to … wait, where are you going? I know, I know, it’s the same tired old tale of bemoaned fans trying to rally together to raise support for a fruitless cause, but stay with me. So these Star Wars fans got together and created a Change.org petition all with the purpose of getting Colin Trevorrow booted from his position behind the camera on Star Wars: Episode IX in favor of George Lucas. This will never in a million years ever happen, but that’s not why this is notable. It’s notable because this petition, which almost 25,000 people have signed, got back to Trevorrow himself, who was forced to comment on it in the most awkward of fashions.

And in other, more humorous Star Wars news…Many fans were a bit disappointed with Lucasfilm’s decision to hire Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to helm Episode 9, but perhaps starting a petition to have George Lucas replace him on the final film in the new trilogy is taking things a little too far. This is what you might call a severe overreaction.

Jacob Tremblay, currently earning rave reviews for his performance alongside Brie Larson in Room, is currently filming Book of Henry, the next movie from Jurassic World director Colin Trevorror, who just so happens to be directing Star Wars: Episode 9. This is not lost on Tremblay who, by his own admission, is a huge Star Wars fan and has said that if he wasn’t an actor, he’d want to be a Jedi (aww).

Colin Trevorrow Teases ‘Jurassic World 2’ and the New Trilogy of ‘Jurassic Park’ Movies
Every single human being with access to a movie theater saw Jurassic World this summer, making it the highest grossing film of all time not directed by James Cameron (aka, the third highest grossing film of all time). A sequel was inevitable. But how about a trilogy? Because director Colin Trevorrow says that he always had a three-movie arc in mind. Now, $1.6 billion later, he’s able to start talking about it like a real thing that will actually happen and not some crazy plan.
