Each and every fall TV season brings with it a crop of pilots that eek by enough to find their strengths, while many more fail miserably. We've seen a few cancellations added to the 2013 list already, but with NBC's Mike O'Malley-centric 'Welcome to the Family' ranking especially low on the network's already-struggling Thursday, might 'Community' season 5 get an early premiere to sub in?
'Community' creator Dan Harmon may not have enjoyed his year off from the series in season 4 (read: he despised it), but at it seems at least one positive from the season will return for season 5. Not only will '21 Jump Street' star Brie Larson return as a person of interest to one Abed Nadir, but so too will the cameo-heavy installment feature 'Terminator' and all-around genre vet Robert Patrick, among others.
Can "streets ahead" become galaxies ahead? Of all the 'Community' season 5 guests we've observed thus far (and there have been some shiny ones), the latest is by far our favorite. 'Firefly' icon and 'Castle' star Nathan Fillion will make a guest appearance in 'Community' season 5 alongside our beloved Greendale gang, but who will the former Malcolm Reynolds play this time around?
'Community' season 5 has been tracking streets ahead of its predecessor with the return of both series creator Dan Harmon and a number of fan-favorite guests, but the beleaguered NBC comedy may yet lose another of its stars. 'Hangover' trilogy vet Ken Jeong has begun development on his own NBC comedy, 'Dr. Ken,' loosely based on Jeong's own experiences in medicine, but would the new series "Chang"-e 'Community' even further without one of its most frequent villains?
As if 'Community' season 5 weren't big enough with the returns of series creator Dan Harmon, and guest stars Rob Corddry and John Oliver, the Greendale Gang of NBC's beloved cult comedy will once again host one of its celebrity favorites. 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' star LeVar Burton will reprise his role playing himself for the coming fifth season, but will Troy be able to keep his composure this time around?
After the mental exhaustion of pondering the reality of a 'Better Call Saul' spinoff from 'Breaking Bad,' we're thrilled to have a bit of unrelated good news. 'Community' season 5 will return to its roots in bringing back 'The Daily Show' vet John Oliver as displaced professor Ian Duncan, even if Troy isn't around to have his question finally answered!
Whether by 'Community' creator Dan Harmon's antics, or a communicable decline in quality for season 4, the NBC cult comedy has long struggled with the reasoning behind its celebrated, but statistically small audience. How better to fight back, than for series stars Joel McHale and Yvette Nicole Brown to stealthily bash NBC in a new Comedy Central syndication spot?
What is it about 'Community' and great character actors? Recently we reported that The Greendale
Seven Six (or possibly Five) will have to face 'Breaking Bad''s Jonathan Banks in the upcoming season, and now we've found out 'The Shield' and 'Justified' star Walton Goggins will have a guest spot in Season 5!
Earlier today we heard that 'Community' guest Rob Corddry would return for the unscheduled season 5 premiere, though it seems the Greendale gang has taken a much fuller measure for the coming year. The pain of our Mike-less 'Breaking Bad' will soon come to an end as Jonathan Banks returns to NBC for 'Community' season 5 for a season-long guest arc!
Hard to imagine that 'Community' season 5 has already begun production, considering Dan Harmon, returning series creator, and the Greendale gang know ahead of time this year that NBC will likely hold the cult comedy to midseason. Nonetheless, production on the premiere has officially gotten underway, returning 'Childrens Hospital' and 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2' star Rob Corddry to face off against Jeff once more!
