While it sure sounds like another James Bond film is definitely happening, and happening soon, and it also sounds like Daniel Craig will be back to play 007, nothing has been absolutely set in stone yet, it seems. Craig himself says that nothing is “confirmed” about his return to Bond, though this could just mean that he hasn’t signed anything yet.

When Eon Productions officially announced Bond 25 was coming to theaters on November 8, 2019, they did not officially announce that Daniel Craig was returning as James Bond. Various reports claimed that Craig was definitely back (a “done deal” is how The New York Times put it) but until he says or producers say, it’s still an open question.

Remember when Daniel Craig famously said he’s rather slash his own wrists than suit up again as 007? There’s probably a handful of reasons Craig was hesitant to return to the franchise, from the intense physical demands of the role to the time commitment to playing a celebrated, though not-all-that-creative iconic character. (Bond isn’t exactly a role that lends an actor much creative license, unlike say, Joe Bang in Logan Lucky where Craig gets to roll around in sheer kookiness.) But according to new rumors, there was another reason that Craig may have been reluctant to rejoin the franchise for Bond 25, and now, Bond 26.
