There’s only so much left to say of FOX’s 2016 X-Files revival until the thing actually premieres on January 24, but by gum, FOX is going to give it a whirl. It’s hard to believe that new X-Files episodes will arrive in just over a month’s time, even as debate rages over the balance between our 2016 revival’s two mythology episodes, and standalone “monster of the week” hours within. Now, a new featurette for the January premiere sees cast and crew discussing the approach, and what great X-Files mysteries might end up solved.

Much as we never thought we’d say it, The X-Files has shown us enough of its six-episode revival by all the weekly trailers accompanying Gotham. That said, at least one shadowy, smokey figure has yet to show his face, remedied by the first official key art of FOX’s 2016 revival, even without an official explanation.

The moment FOX’s revived X-Files announced that The Flash and Six Feet Under alums Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose would appear as a pair of upstart FBI agents, the TV-minded knew a spinoff might be in the cards. It seems that was in fact the case, at least initially, but has creator Chris Carter abandoned plans for a series without Mulder and Scully?

FOX had itself a big week, between debuting yet another X-Files promo and improbably crossing over Bones and Sleepy Hollow, so what’s one more look at Mulder and Scully before Halloween? The monsters are on full display in two new trailers, along with a new poster to remind us that we are not alone.

Much of the excitement and mystery surrounding The X-Files’ 2016 return comes from the promise of mythology answers and alien invasions, but the six-episode revival will also bring back some of the sci-fi drama’s bread and butter. For as much anticipation builds toward FOX’s 2016 revival of The X-Files, it’s difficult to envision how much ground six episodes will cover, balancing stand-alone stories with the sci-fi drama’s layered mythology. FOX may not be so one-and-done with its new X-Files however, as its creator promises more Mulder and Scully to come, set to some very classic tunes.
