Selma’s David Oyelowo and Beyond the Lights star Gugu Mbatha-Raw will play the lead roles in God Particle, which will finally begin shooting sometime this year for a 2017 release.

Before Ang Lee began production on Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, the director was set to follow Life of Pi with another 3D film, moving the action from the ocean to the boxing ring with the story of Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali’s legendary match. The untitled film has found new life as Lee has moved the project from Universal to Studio 8, with Ray Fisher and Selma’s David Oyelowo emerging as frontrunners for the main event.

'Nightingale' Trailer: David Oyelowo Loses His Mind
Of last year’s many Oscar snubs, David Oyelowo not receiving a nomination for his commanding leading performance in Selma was a total shock. 2014 was Oyelowo’s breakout year, and Selma cemented his place as an intensely talented star. The actor has a few films hitting theaters this year, and one hitting the small screen, as well: Nightingale, the new HBO film from producer Brad Pitt. And judging by the first trailer, Oyelowo knocks this one out of the park — but are you really surprised?

David Oyelowo and director Ava DuVernay have proven to be a rather wonderful team, and although both were snubbed at the Oscars for DuVernay’s powerful ‘Selma,’ the pair are already plotting their next reunion: a currently untitled mystery drama set around Hurricane Katrina, which DuVernay will write and direct and Oyelowo will star in and produce.

Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo Eyed for 'Queen of Katwe'
Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo are inarguably two of the hottest stars right now, following Nyong’o’s Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress in 2013's ‘12 Years a Slave,’ and Oyelowo’s performance as Martin Luther King Jr. in ‘Selma,’ which is generating some serious awards buzz. And now these two immensely talented actors may team up for a new Disney film about an African chess prodigy—if so, this new film may generate some awards buzz of its own before production even begins.

People love watching famous people accept trophies. So, every so often, The Huffington Post’s Chris Rosen and ScreenCrush’s Mike Ryan will speculate about these trophies and which famous person might win one. It will be fun. Let’s talk some trophies! Today, we discuss what could be the new Best Picture frontrunner, Ava DuVernay's Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, ‘Selma.’

'Selma' Trailer: Martin Luther King Jr. Takes a Stand
The first trailer 'Selma' doesn't strictly adhere to the sounds of the time, using modern music to punctuate our first look at the upcoming biopic, though it's unclear if the film -- from director Ava DuVernay -- will also utilize a more contemporary soundtrack. Biopics can typically be a bit paint by numbers, but something about this one feels a bit different, perhaps due to the excellent cast and the subject matter, which doesn't seek to follow the life of Dr. King from beginning to end, but instead to focus on a specific portion of his life.
