Donald Glover is finally joining the Spider-Man cinematic universe.
Promotion of FX’s Donald Glover-fronted Atlanta has been few and far between, its only real teaser airing with the People v. O.J. Simpson finale, at least until now. The off-kilter hip-hop drama has a new full-length promo, along with a September premiere.
Despite taking place two decades after the real verdict, all eyes were on FX last night for the closing statements of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Donald Glover’s upcoming rap drama Atlanta took full advantage of that hype as well, airing a brilliant meta spot tied to the series’ verdict, which you can watch right now.
The world has seemed curiously void of either Donald Glover or Childish Gambino of late, but FX has made it a mission to return both to the forefront. The former Community star’s Atlanta rap drama, well … Atlanta, has been given a series order for 2016.
The Martian premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last night, and we’ll have a review from our own Matt Singer shortly (spoiler: it’s a good movie), but until then you can enjoy this new clip from Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi offering, featuring a delightful Donald Glover using a stapler to explain his ambitious space-plan.
Now that audiences have a fresh look at Donald Glover dancing his way through Magic Mike XXL this weekend, FX has officially set production on the former Community star’s new rap series Atlanta. The full cast list for Glover’s new project has arrived, along with a hose of new details about the main characters.
The boys of Magic Mike are returning to theaters this summer, and while a couple of their old friends have been left behind, they’re welcoming a handful of new cast members, including Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover and Andie MacDowell. Warner Bros. has unleashed almost 50 new stills from Magic Mike XXL, featuring old cast members and new, and you can even spot original Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh hanging out on set.
That old familiar standby of Community signing off has again arrived, perhaps a bit more under the radar than in previous years, but nonetheless completing the first half of its #SixSeasonsandaMovie pledge. Meta as ever, “Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television” said a heartfelt goodbye to Season 6 as it envisioned a potential Season 7, but would fans (or Dan Harmon) even want it?
How many times in your life have you snuck up on someone and scared them? Three, maybe four times? The Lazarus Effect is the kind of horror movie where people do that constantly. It’s basically their standard greeting; instead of “Hello!” they jump on people from behind, sometimes while wearing pig masks. It doesn’t make much sense, but they’re not doing it because it’s logical — they’re doing it because this is a bargain basement horror film and you take the scares wherever you can get them.
