Even as Marvel continues to crank out massively scaled spectacles, they’re always keeping one eye on the future. Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp won’t shrink down and infiltrate theaters until July 6, 2018, but the wheels of pre-production have begun turning on the sequel audiences apparently asked for.

With Peyton Reed serving as a fine replacement for Edgar Wright on Ant-Man, fans are curious to see what the Marvel director can do with next year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. Despite the smaller (get it?) stakes of the first film, it’s worth noting that the sequel will be the first Marvel move to have a female co-star named in the title. That’s both exciting and disappointing for fans, especially those who wonder why Scarlett Johansson still hasn’t been given her own le Carré-esque superhero spy story. Will Ant-Man and the Wasp live up to its promise, or will it be another supporting role for a female superhero?

We’ve yet to see Hope Van Dyne make her on-screen debut in the Wasp suit, but don’t expect it to happen in the form of a cameo. Evangeline Lily’s character didn’t make an appearance in ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ leading fans to wonder just when the character would suit up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most likely place we’d catch up with her seemed to be ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ but it turns out we’ll have to wait a little bit longer.

While doing the rounds to promote his financial crisis film The Big Short, Adam McKay hinted that he might be back to script Ant-Man and the Wasp — as it turns out, not only is McKay reporting for scripting duties on the sequel, but he’ll be re-teaming with Paul Rudd, and the pair will have a little additional help from uncredited Ant-Man writers Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer.

ABC’s LOST may not have answered every mystery set up over the course of five seasons, but did you know that J.J. Abrams first pitched the island drama to ABC as having no serialized mystery whatsoever? Or that the costly pilot got ABC’s then-president fired for his trouble? If you’ve somehow avoided seeing Ant-Man just yet, then be warned that this post is filled with spoilers, obviously. With all the dudes fighting in their mechanized superhero (and villain) costumes in the film, there was one character who didn’t make it into a super-suit: Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne. But according to Lilly, it may not be too much longer before she suits up for Marvel.

There has been a lot of talk about the two Ant-Man post-credits scenes, specifically the one that sets up Captain America: Civil War. We talked about that one yesterday, as Sebastian Stan sought to explain a little bit about what was going on. Today, we’re going to talk about that other post-credits scene as Marvel has officially released a photo teasing a major new superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ant-Man spoilers ahead!

Evangeline Lilly’s future as Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is hardly a secret, though we knew for some time prior to the release of Ant-Man that we wouldn’t see her suit-up as the comic book hero in that film. But one of your first reactions after seeing Ant-Man was probably something like, “Great, so when will we see Lilly as Wasp, then?” Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has an answer. Kind of.

It’s funny, fitting, and sort of cruel that Ant-Man’s version of the Wasp is named Hope.

Marvel has released the final trailer for Ant-Man following the reveal of the first in a planned series of viral videos connecting Scott Lang to the larger MCU. Hopefully when the next video hits next week, we’ll have a bit more to go on, but until then we have the final official trailer for Marvel’s latest superhero adventure — and it looks pretty fun.
