We’re still not sure exactly when the new Indiana Jones sequel will happen, but not long ago, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed that Steven Spielberg is returning to direct Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5. David Koepp, who worked on the screenplay for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (insert sad trombone) is also reuniting with Spielberg for the upcoming sequel, and according to him, there’s one notable person who won’t be involved — at least on the story level.

Bad news for Star Wars enthusiasts in Chicago: after several legal setbacks, George Lucas has decided not to move forward with his plans for a lakeside museum. According to Variety, the decision was made after it appeared that the lawsuit filed by Chicago group Friends of Parks was not going to be resolved anytime soon.

The concept of a a live-action Star Wars TV series seems all-but lost to time, and perhaps with good reason. According to a God of War game director working for George Lucas at the time, the series might have thought to humanize Emperor Palpatine by revealing the backstory of a “heartless” female gangster who “totally destroyed him as a person.”

It’s not uncommon for trailers to feature scenes that never make it to theaters, or for specific scenes to look slightly different than they did in early teasers, owing to changes in visual FX during production. Such is the case with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while some of the scenes featured in the trailers weren’t included in the theatrical version, those deleted scenes are included on the new Blu-ray release. But there was one thing from the initial trailers that wasn’t restored: a reference to George Lucas’ prequels.

Earlier this month a group of enterprising Star Wars fans started an online petition to … wait, where are you going? I know, I know, it’s the same tired old tale of bemoaned fans trying to rally together to raise support for a fruitless cause, but stay with me. So these Star Wars fans got together and created a Change.org petition all with the purpose of getting Colin Trevorrow booted from his position behind the camera on Star Wars: Episode IX in favor of George Lucas. This will never in a million years ever happen, but that’s not why this is notable. It’s notable because this petition, which almost 25,000 people have signed, got back to Trevorrow himself, who was forced to comment on it in the most awkward of fashions.

There was a lot of paranoia about spoilers in the days and weeks (and months [and years]) leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Trailers gave almost no indication of a plot beyond the presence of a) stars and b) wars. The official poster didn’t include a picture of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker for fear of revealing his fate. Even press screenings were delayed until the last possible moment to keep the lid on J.J. Abrams’ latest mystery box for as long as humanly possible.

And in other, more humorous Star Wars news…Many fans were a bit disappointed with Lucasfilm’s decision to hire Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to helm Episode 9, but perhaps starting a petition to have George Lucas replace him on the final film in the new trilogy is taking things a little too far. This is what you might call a severe overreaction.
