Ryan Gosling won Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the 2017 Golden Globes, because not even the Hollywood Foreign Press Association could resist the delectable charm of the La La Land crooner. The actor won his very first Globe on Sunday night for his role as Sebastian, an ambitious jazz musician in the Damien Chazelle musical.

Watch Jimmy Fallon’s ‘La La Land’-Inspired Golden Globes Opening

The Golden Globes are underway, but if you missed the show’s big opening number, you can watch it right now, right here. Host Jimmy Fallon paid homage to one of this year’s big nominees, La La Land, with a musical number inspired by the film’s grand opening, where a whole bunch of people trapped in a Los Angeles traffic jam leap from their cars in a big song-and-dance routine. Fallon’s version, of course, included Stormtroopers from Star Wars, Game of Thrones jokes, and a whole lot more. Take a look:

‘Atlanta’ Wins Best TV Series Musical or Comedy at the 2017 Golden Globes

by Kevin Fitzpatrick January 8, 2017 @ 7:31 PM
We were all in need of additional laughs over the course of 2016, even as comedy seemed to turn more poignant (and occasionally darker) than ever. That contradiction is no more apparent than with the 2017 Golden Globes’ choice for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, as Atlanta takes home the gold.

Our Almost Definitely Wrong 2017 Golden Globes Predictions

by Matt Singer January 6, 2017 @ 8:40 AM
Don’t let anyone tell you they know who is going to win the Golden Globes. Who knows what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group of about 90 international journalists from all over the world, are going to do? (Seriously; their official site says they have “about 90 members.”) Predicting what any awards voting body is going to do is tricky to begin with; picking what a small and largely anonymous voting body with notoriously idiosyncratic taste is going to do basically impossible. Trying to pick the 2017 Golden Globe winners is like trying to predict the weather six months from now or who will win the Super Bowl in 2026. Unless you’ve got telepathic powers or the Grays Sports Almanac of Movie and Television Awards, you’re screwed.

It’s officially awards season, and with potential nominee shortlists come presenter announcements. ‘Game of Thrones’ Author Thinks ‘Westworld’ Will Win Golden Globes

by Kevin Fitzpatrick December 15, 2016 @ 12:19 PM
The Golden Globes are notoriously harder to predict than the Emmys (at least for TV), and one wonders if the HFPA will continue to reward new series, despite Game of Thrones finishing one of its best years. It’s all in the family for HBO, at least, as George R.R. Martin thinks Westworld might win out over Season 6.

And the Podcast Goes To… Episode 2: Golden Globe Nominations, Snubs and Surprises

by ScreenCrush Staff December 14, 2016 @ 10:07 AM
Another year, another wacky and uncertain awards season. Monday morning brought the 2017 Golden Globe nominations, including a handful of odd choices and snubs. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was more wooed by Andrew Garfield’s performance in Hacksaw Ridge than Silence, giving the Mel Gibson war drama three nods and Martin Scorsese’s religious period piece zero. Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals got three nods (not including one for Michael Shannon’s critically praised performance), and Deadpool earned for Best Picture Comedy/Musical and Best Actor nominations. It will be a weird awards season indeed.
