Star Wars is not exactly synonymous with the Oscars. Those two words, forever known as the most famous film franchise in the world, have more in common with terms like “box office,” “special effects,” “sold-out tickets,” and many other things which are usually at the other end of the spectrum of awards season fodder. But what if J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens actually turned out to be a an Oscar sleeper? Before you roll your eyes, stop reading this and go back to analyzing those new Force Awakens photos, hear me out, for the sake of the Force.

There’s been talk for years now of another Indiana Jones movie, with fans clamoring to see Harrison Ford pick up the whip for another adventure, especially since Indy’s last outing was so underwhelming. Producer Frank Marshall recently revealed that there is definitely talk of a new Indiana Jones movie, and although Chris Pratt has been the rumored favorite to take over the franchise, Disney and Lucasfilm have no plans of re-casting the role Ford has made so iconic. Good news for those guys, because Ford says he’d love to make another Indy movie.
Before Steven Spielberg and George Lucas figured out the plot for what would eventually be Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the prequel almost brought back Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood and her father Abner Ravenwood as major characters. The film, originally titled The Temple of Death, was about Indy riding a motorcycle across the Great Wall of China and finding a lost colony of dinosaurs. Need more Indiana Jones facts? No time for love, just start watching the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies!
Harrison Ford appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to talk publicly for the first time about breaking his ankle on the set of Star Wars, crashing his plane and how Star Wars: The Force Awakens is an “incredible” movie. Oh, we should also mention he did all this while dressed up as a hot dog.
Since Disney bought the rights to Lucasfilm back in October of 2012, fans have been speculating about what it means for the future of Indiana Jones. In addition to the Star Wars rights, Disney has the rights to future Indiana Jones movies and, considering they paid $3 billion, they’re going to exploit those rights. Everyone from Chris Pratt to Bradley Cooper has been rumored to be taking over for Harrison Ford, but producer Frank Marshall says not so fast. There will be more Indiana Jones movies, but they will never recast that famous role.
Steven Spielberg is a man with the powers of a god. As the visionary behind some of the most universally beloved film properties of the 20th century, he wields an unfathomable influence over the legions of movie geeks who hold his populist successes as holy gospel. All it takes from the director to move millions of hearts to flutter is words, simple words. No matter if they’re part of a totally offhand comment during an interview, hinting at a project with no actual traction in pre-production, with actors who have most certainly aged out of the capacity to perform feats of dazzling derring-do. All it takes is a mere utterance of the words “Indiana Jones 5” from Spielberg and we all feel like we’re twelve years old again.
So much of Han Solo’s appeal is due to Harrison Ford’s portrayal of the legendary smuggler. It’s an iconic character elevated by an iconic performance. But it almost didn’t happen. Early in the development of Star Wars, Han Solo was a big, green-skinned alien Jedi with gills and no nose. Once George Lucas decided he wanted a human character, he actually almost cast Billy Dee Williams in the part, before reconsidering him for Lando Calrissian. That’s just one of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which catches up with the captain of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo!
Harrison Ford might be a superhero. This, according to Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, who was on set for Ford’s unfortunate accident last year, when a hydraulic door broke his leg. (As Abrams’ describes it in the clip above, his ankle was at a, gulp, 90-degree angle to the rest of his body. Ew.) Thankfully, Ford was okay. Then he later got into a plane crash and was mostly okay after that too. Because, again, Harrison Ford is a superhero.
