Twentieth Century Fox had a good thing going for it with 'The Wolverine,' which is saying something, considering most comic book fans have at least a handful of issues with swallowing some of their other superhero properties (e.g. 'Fantastic Four,' an oddly looking Quicksilver in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'?). So with 'Wolverine 3' continuing the legacy of the adamantium-clawed badass on screen, director James Mangold will hopefully churn out another success for the studio, but how far in the future might we see this in theaters?

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Releases Even More Photos and Magazine Covers

There's a rich tradition among the superhero movie elite of studios offering up the all the goods (and by goods we mean footage) before their movies even hit theaters. (See 'Captain America 2' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.') People wanna try before they buy, right? The same motto seems to apply to 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' which released even more photos, along with the latest magazine covers for the latest Total Film issue.

The main thrust of the advertising campaign for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is that the film will contain characters from both the original 'X-Men' franchise and prequel film 'X-Men: First Class,' making this one of the biggest superhero movies ever made. Although the trailer and previous images have given us looks at this enormous ensemble of black leather-clad mutant warriors, the film's official site revealed a series of character portraits, giving us our best look at 17 of the characters.

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is the most ambitious 'X-Men' film to date, as teased in the latest photos. Two casts, one being the original trilogy actors and the second being the 'First Class' generation, converge to tell a story with two parallel time periods. How will it all play out?

Hugh Jackman has made intimations that he might be getting tired playing Wolverine, even with 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' 'X-Men: Apocalypse' and 'The Wolverine 2' all being worked on. Perhaps the best way to liven things up is to play a villain for a change, and that might be what he does next as he's in talks to join Joe Wright's Peter Pan update/origin film 'Pan' as the villainous Captain Blackbeard.

'The Wolverine' Extended Edition: How Director James Mangold Made 2013 the Best Year for Superhero Films

Recently, Fox screened the new director’s extended cut of ‘The Wolverine’ and hosted an interview with the film's director, James Mangold. Aside from the added 12 minutes of additional scene and violence, the extended cut highlights 2013 as the year Hollywood finally cracked how to make great comic-book movies. Though there has been amazing films made from the pages of Marvel and DC -- this year produced ‘Iron Man 3,’ ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘The Wolverine’ -- what makes these so special is how they've been informed by previous cinematic misfires.

When word arrived that director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman were in talks to return for a 'Wolverine 3' (we'll call it that for the time being, even though we hate that it reminds us of the existence of 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'), we openly wondered what existing storyline they would use for the film, or if they would tell a completely original tale. Mangold himself put to rest the notions that they would create their own 'Wolverine' story saying they "absolutely" will be adapting a popular comic storyline.

Hugh Jackman Wants to Return For 'The Wolverine 2,' Says They Have a "Really Cool" Idea

Two weeks ago, we heard reports that Fox was developing a 'The Wolverine 2' with director James Mangold. This despite numerous reports from the summer that seemed to indicate that Hugh Jackman was done playing the character and ready to retire the claws after 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' But, now Jackman has spoken out for the first time since those reports and it sounds like he's had a change of heart and now he's excited to return as Wolverine for another adventure.

Is It Time For Hugh Jackman to Retire as Wolverine?

When 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' opens in theaters next summer, Hugh Jackman will have starred as Wolverine in seven different movies. It's a feat few actors have done before (see: Leonard Nimoy, Daniel Radcliffe and Desmond Llewelyn) and impressive that an actor of Jackman's caliber would stick with one character for so long. But, as Jackman enters talks with 20th Century Fox for yet another movie (a follow-up to this summer's successful 'The Wolverine'), we have to ask, is it time for Jackman and Logan to part ways?

'The Wolverine' was one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2013 summer movie season, but a newly released deleted ending gives us a look at a very cool moment that seems to have barely missed getting into the final cut. [Note: since there's footage of the film's final moments, there are spoilers.]
