Into the Storm
Armitage -- who kinda, sorta practices method acting; depending on your definition of method acting -- has the final chapter of 'The Hobbit' trilogy coming out this December, 'The Battle of Five Armies.' Here, Armitage, who plays the dwarf Thorin Oakenshield, reflects on what he thinks the legacy of this trilogy will be in comparison to 'The Lord of the Rings.' Armitage also dares us to find him somewhere in 'Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace' -- a movie that he is in -- and gives us some clues on how to do so, but even he's not exactly sure if he's seen himself.
More than 15 years after 'Twister,' we're back in the path of a tornado. A lot of tornadoes, actually. It's been almost two years since I visited the set of the upcoming film 'Into the Storm,' but considering the two years of extreme weather we've had, it stuck in my head.
How do you fight the air? The answer, according to the new 'Into the Storm' trailer, is a resounding no ... unless, of course, you're one of the 'Jersey Shore' boys fist-pumping in the clubs. This new look at the natural disaster flick goes full 'Twister' in following around storm chasers tracking a series of tornados wreaking havoc on a small town. Although, unlike 'Twister,' the found footage use and number of fire cyclones are higher.
When it comes to dangerous weather, there's nothing more cinematic than a tornado. 'Twister' knew this back in 1996, and if its new trailer is any indication, 'Into the Storm' knows this now in 2014. But there's one big question lingering on our minds: what can 'Into the Storm' do with highly destructive, low-pressure funnel clouds that 'Twister' didn't already accomplish?
