I’m an old enough nerd to remember when the first X-Men movie came out in theaters. At that time, comic books were not the number one driver of all things in popular culture. Bryan Singer’s X-Men certainly featured all the comic’s beloved heroes and villains, but there did seem like there was a concerted effort to tamp down some of their comic-book-ness. Everyone dressed in black. There was no spandex. The story was grounded in weighty real-world themes like prejudice and vengeance. It was the X-Men you knew, but watered down just a bit. It was a rum and coke, not a shot of gin. X-Men: Apocalypse, in comparison, looks like a bottle of Beefeater.

In a little less than a month we’ll be seeing two things: a new Star Wars movie and the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse. While it’s possible that we’ll see a short teaser-for-the-tease-trailer for the latter in the week leading up to its official theatrical debut, director Bryan Singer has shared a new photo from the film in case you were feeling a tad anxious.

Having a superpower would be pretty awesome for any of us to have, but that doesn’t mean that all superpowers are created equal. For every “faster than a speeding bullet” there’s someone like Chlorophyll Kid, who can make plants grow. James McAvoy is currently playing one of the superheroes with the best powers — the telepath Professor X in the X-Men movies — and was asked what he thought the worst superpower would be, and he quickly threw one of his co-stars under the bus.

In what proved to be one of the neatest twists of 2015, M. Night Shyamalan restored our faith by returning with the pretty solid horror flick The Visit. And the master of twists is already heading into production on his next thriller, re-teaming with Blumhouse Productions for the newly-titled Split, starring James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy, the breakout star of The Witch.

Although we previously heard that Joaquin Phoenix might be reuniting with his Signs and The Village director M. Night Shyamalan for a new thriller, it would appear that those plans never progressed beyond the discussions stage. Instead, X-Men star James McAvoy will lead Shyamalan’s next project, simply described as a “supernatural thriller.”

It’s alive! Again! For the, what, twentieth time?

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve gotten some sneak peeks at X-Men: Apocalypse via photos in Entertainment Weekly, featuring new characters like Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse, Olivia Munn’s Psylocke, and Alexandra Shipp’s Storm. But what about the other new, young mutants? 20th Century Fox has released a gallery of high-res photos featuring Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Cyclops and more.

Although James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier has sported a healthy head of hair in the recent X-Men films, we all knew the kindly mutant professor would have to lose all that hair pretty soon. Professor X’s bald head is a trademark, and it’s one we’ll get to see on the big screen in X-Men: Apocalypse, as promised in this new behind the scenes image.

The other day we brought you the not-so-shocking revelation that Adam Sandler is the most overpaid actor in Hollywood (for the second year in a row!), but what about the actors who made 2014 a great time at the movies? We’re talking about the leading men and women who aren’t necessarily the highest-paid, but who have brought in the most money at the box office—proving their successful ability to draw millions of people to see their films, sometimes more than once. It probably won’t surprise you to learn that your imaginary BFFs Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are at the top of the list of the highest-grossing actors of 2014.
