Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but a new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand may be moving forward. Reports indicate the years-delayed adaptation may have found a home at CBS All-Access under New Mutants director Josh Boone.

A new report sheds light on the ‘X-Men’ movie release delays, and why we may need to be worried.

The film, which was originally scheduled to debut in April, is reportedly being worked on to make it scarier.

In case there were any doubt regarding writer / director Josh Boone’s assertion that The New Mutants is a horror film, the new poster and teaser should clarify things pretty quickly. The latest poster for the X-Men spinoff features faces screaming in agony (scary!), while the new teaser foreshadows the film’s villain — lifted straight from the pages of the Marvel comic book series.

The Dark Tower wasn’t just a huge disappointment at the box office; it was also a major bummer for the longtime Stephen King fans who had waited years to see the author’s fantasy epic come to life. It may be many more years before anyone attempts to adapt it again, but in the meantime, it looks like New Mutants director and King mega-fan Josh Boone is working on giving us the next best thing.

Apparently Josh Boone’s adaptation of the beloved Marvel comic is not your typical superhero adventure.

It’s been a relatively quiet last couple of months for Josh Boone’s X-Men: The New Mutants. While there are certainly bigger and louder comic book movies to chase down  —  hello, Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War  —  Boone’s film managed to avoid headlines and will have the rare chance to genuinely surprise audiences when it starts rolling out the marketing material. And while there’s still a few hurdles left to overcome  —  the movie is still months away from hitting theaters, after all  —  at least Boone and his cast can celebrate the end of production on his standalone X-Men movie.

Comic-Con 2017 is right around the corner, and one of the films we’re hoping to see at the big 20th Century Fox panel in Hall H is The New Mutants, the studio’s next X-Men spinoff. We’re not banking on seeing any actual footage from the film itself, however, since it officially went into production today — as evidenced by a photo from director Josh Boone, who received a pretty funny gag gift to mark the occasion.

What we have here is a classic good news / bad news situation. First, the bad: Rosario Dawson has parted ways with New Mutants, Josh Boone’s highly-anticipated X-Men spinoff. But before you go blasting that sad trombone, here’s the good: She’ll be replaced by Brazilian actress and Queen of the South star Alice Braga. See? Everything works out.
