While Warner Bros. and DC Comics slowly but surely build a movie universe that will hopefully lead to the 'Justice League' film we've all been craving, one actor has made it clear that he's not interested in participating: the Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale. That means the role will eventually be recast. The question is, who should take his place?

When 'The Dark Knight Rises' came out -- even though the film left the door open for a spin-off or sequel  -- Christian Bale was consistent in saying that he would only come back if Christopher Nolan was at the helm. And though Warner Brothers is trying to get 'Justice League' going and would love to have him back, Bale has just said he will not be returning to play Batman.

A ‘Man of Steel 2' was never in doubt. Warner Bros. hopes Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot serves the same purpose as Jon Favreau’s ‘Iron Man,’ introducing movie-going audiences to a familiar hero while laying the groundwork for a larger comic-book universe to unfold on screen.
So now that Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ has opened in theaters, collecting an estimated $125 million in its debut weekend, we can turn our attention to the next step in Warner’s burgeoning D.C. Comics plan. Instead of 'Justice League' or a Batman-Superman team up, it sounds like we’re going to get a second standalone ‘Man of Steel’ film to further flesh out this new world.
Here’s what we know so far about ‘Man of Steel 2.’

With the arrival of 'Man of Steel' in theaters this weekend comes the next major superhero franchise, as well as the first legitimate step toward an eventual 'Justice League' movie. For eagle-eyed fans, 'Man of Steel' is filled with all kinds of tiny easter eggs that suggest a larger universe. For starters, the Wayne Enterprises logo appears on a satellite, while the LexCorp logo can be spotted on a building and a few tanker trucks. In other words, should the opportunity arise, the new Superman movie is quietly laying the groundworks for a larger DC cinematic universe ... a universe that may include the superhero Cyborg, if we can believe everything screenwriter David S. Goyer says.

Since the massive success of Marvel's 'The Avengers,' everyone has wondered when Warner Bros. and DC Comics would get their act together and start teaming up their roster of superheroes on the big screen. Although the long-in-the-works 'Justice League' movie has started and stalled on numerous occasions, 'Man of Steel' star Henry Cavill was recently asked about another possibility. How about a Batman/Superman movie?

Whatever the "Justice League problem" means to you, Lord knows there is one. Warner Bros. was originally set on the idea of bringing this team of DC heroes to the big screen, but has since faltered and are now relying on whether the upcoming 'Man of Steel' succeeds or not to make that decision for them. Still there are many concerns from fans and execs alike about realizing this particular set of characters, but could one of the top working writers of the day, Damon Lindelof, have a solution?
