Much like the Coen Brothers, Steven Soderbergh has two distinct sides. There’s the ‘serious artist’ side, the one responsible for movies Contagion, Solaris, and Traffic, and the side that makes delightfully light-hearted genre movies. As much as I may enjoy Serious Soderbergh, I always have the most fun with the Soderbergh who made Ocean’s 11 and Out of Sight. And thankfully for those of us tired of grimdark summer blockbusters, that’s the Soderbergh on full display in the first trailer for Logan Lucky.

The calendar may have four seasons, but Hollywood’s calendar only really has two at this point: summer and awards, and summer seems to last longer and longer ever year. Though the start of May has long been the unofficial kickoff of the S.M.S., 2017 has already seen a King Kong movie, a ghost in a shell, and the fate of Fast & Furious franchise. The change from April to May is something of a formality in 2017. Once the Oscars are over, the summer begins.

Four years after announcing his retirement from feature filmmaking, Steven Soderbergh is set to return with a brand new heist movie, Logan Lucky, which he says is a “complete inversion” of his well-known Ocean’s trilogy.

Logan Lucky marks Steven Soderbergh’s return to directing after coming out of “retirement” after his 2013 movie Side Effects, and as such it’s one of the most anticipated movies of this year. Today is a great, great day, because not only do we get our first official look at Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum, and Adam Driver’s characters, but we also get a release date that’s two months earlier than expected!

The name is Bond…Bail Bond. At least that seems to be the case in these new photos from the set of Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, which features a nearly unrecognizable Daniel Craig alongside a very recognizable Adam Driver. Both actors are sporting prison stripes in the pics, which also offer a glimpse at Riley Keough’s character. In addition to the set photos, a new report reveals that Sebastian Stan has joined the cast of what’s been described as a “hillbilly heist” movie.

By now you know it’s best to expect the unexpected when it comes to Steven Soderbergh, who recently emerged from semi-retirement (or Not Actual Retirement At All) to direct his first feature film since 2012. Even still, you probably never would have guessed that his latest project would star Adam Driver, Seth MacFarlane and Katherine Heigl — okay, you might have guessed Driver since that guy is pretty much everywhere right now. But would you have predicted the casting of Hilary Swank? Probably not.

This whole “will they or won’t they” thing between Daniel Craig and the James Bond franchise has become more ridiculous than Ross and Rachel. And now Craig is adding a bit more fuel to the Bond-fire as the actor is preparing to join the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, making his return to the world of 007 seem increasingly unlikely.

Those rumors from a few months back have (thankfully) proven true, as it would appear that Steven Soderbergh is plotting his first feature film since 2013. Titled Logan Lucky, the heist film reunites Soderbergh with Magic Mike star Channing Tatum, and although Michael Shannon has unfortunately dropped out of the project, a few more actors have joined the lineup.
