Spirited a performance though Kanye West gave at this past weekend’s SNL under host Melissa McCarthy, the always-tempestuous artist appeared visibly upset in his brief promo appearances. Despite numerous (and still-to-come) protests, SNL won’t be walking back its controversial decision to elect Donald Trump as its first November host this weekend. That said, it seems the veteran NBC sketch series originally eyed him for a single appearance, before offering him the full November 7 slot.

When Lorne Michaels is producing a movie, it’s probably pretty easy to get a bunch of former and current SNL cast members to show up for cameo appearances. Michaels produced the upcoming indie comedy Staten Island Summer, which the trailer sells as a solid coming of age tale even without all those SNL cameos — though they probably won’t hurt.
