'Man of Steel' Won't Be Mopey Like 'Superman Returns'

Though there hasn't been much to go on when it comes to Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' (it feels like the biggest leaked information came from the toy sets), what's been released so far suggests the film will feature a lot of soul searching, and an emo-Superman who's torn between two fathers. Recently footage was screened, and it turns out they're saving all the big spectacle for later.

One of summer 2013's biggest question marks is 'Man of Steel.' There's a lot riding on this picture for Warner Brothers (who wants to be competitive in the Superhero genre), and for Zack Snyder (who's coming off of a misfire and an out-and-out flop). We're hoping for the best, and we're cautiously optimistic after seeing the film's first TV spot.

There have been rumors since 'Man of Steel' began filming that Lex Luthor - despite not being the film's villain - would somehow make an appearance in the film, setting up 'Man of Steel 2' and other possible sequels. Today, we have even more fuel for the fire as the film's writer, David Goyer, has spoken out about whether we should expect to see Lex Luthor in 'Man of Steel.'

Think back to 2002, when Warner Bros. was eager to relaunch the Superman franchise and had J.J. Abrams as the man leading the way. It's almost amazing to think - knowing now that Abrams was practically begged by Lucasfilm to direct 'Star Wars: Episode 7' - that Warner Bros. didn't move forward with Abrams' vision for 'Superman' but his 'Flyby' was eventually scrapped and replaced with Bryan Singer's 'Superman Returns' a few years later. Now, as 'Man of Steel' is set to hit theaters this summer, Abrams reveals what his 'Superman' movie would've looked like and what, if anything, it has in common with Zack Snyder's upcoming film.

'Man of Steel' Screenwriter Talks Secrecy, a "Realistic" Superman and More

For such a huge movie (and for one coming out so soon), things have been awfully silent on the 'Man of Steel' front. The latest Superman film has given us a few teaser trailers and more than a few official images, but compared to the likes of 'Iron Man 3,' it's been as quiet as a church mouse. But according to screenwriter David Goyer, that's a good thing.

Early buzz is already out for Zack Snyder's upcoming 'Man of Steel,' which will see beloved DC character Superman back on the big screen. Though we're still a ways away from the film's June premiere, some are saying it's "kicking all kinds of ass," which is great news, considering past reports claimed the future of the 'Justice League' movie was riding on the response from Superman. Now, however, rumor has it that we might still have to wait a while as a 'Man of Steel 2' seems more likely to come before the DC team gets together.

Has 'Justice League' Been Pushed Back to 2021?

EDIT

'Justice League' has seen better days. The film was put on hold and then the script was tossed in the garbage heap, all while Marvel moves full steam ahead on Phase 2 of the cinematic universe including, but obviously not limited to, 'The Avengers 2.' And now if new rumors are to be believed, Warner Bros. has put 'Justice League' on the way back burner. How way back? How about 2021?
