The meme may have run its course, but we decided to take a serious approach to pool Hollywood A-list talent we’d like to see in ‘True Detective’ season 2!

We know that both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will not be returning for 'True Detective' Season 2. This is not so much a spoiler as it is a simple fact: the show was developed as an anthology series that would follow new detectives and new cases from season to season. While HBO hasn't yet taken to casting 'True Detective' Season 2, that hasn't stopped the millions of fans from suggesting some of their favorite duos on Twitter with the hashtag #truedetectiveseason2. The results were...hilarious.

Long before HBO's dark and dreary 'True Detective' became a critical rave after only three episodes, showrunner Nic Pizzolatto explained that a second season would likely follow the anthology approach with a new cast and original story. And while HBO has yet to formally renew the Woody Harrelson-Matthew McConaughey for a second season, what of HBO's latest dealings all-but-confirms 'True Detective' will open a second case in 2015 for season 2?

On tonight's new episode of 'True Detective,' Hart and Cohle follow a lead that takes them into the heart of a religious ministry and has them contemplating the meaning (or lack thereof) of life. Meanwhile, Hart continues to face problems at home, while Cohle's tireless efforts off the clock may pay off in the lead they've been waiting for. There's no new episode of 'True Detective' next week, folks, but this one will leave a lasting impression while you wait.

Tonight we also learn a little more about Hart and what happens behind closed doors -- he's not quite the straight and narrow man he presents himself to be.

"Alright, alright, alright," said Matthew McConaughey as he took the stage Sunday night, January 12, at the 2014 Golden Globes. In an unexpected turn, the A-lister won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his acclaimed role in 'Dallas Buyers Club.' This is not to say it wasn't well deserved, but who would have thought that the man formerly haunted by 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' could best the likes of such Hollywood Foreign Press favorites as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and Robert Redford?
This marked McConaughey's first Golden Globe nomination and win, and, as the actor said in his acceptance speech, a 20-year endeavor to get 'Dallas Buyers Club' off the ground and into theaters. But, as he stood to face the camera in a slimmer physique than the classic McConaughey our '90s selves have come to know, it also marked the completion of a long journey (of nearly five years) resurrecting his career from a fading rom-com star to a serious awards contender.

'True Detective' Review: "The Long Bright Dark"

'True Detective' premieres on HBO tonight, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two detectives who are teamed up to solve the case of a ritualistic serial killer in Louisiana. Cary Fukunaga ('Jane Eyre') directed all eight episodes of the first season, which vacillates between 1985 and present-day, as an eerily similar killing has taken place and the retired detectives are called upon for their help once again. This moody, cinematic procedural shows a hell of a lot of restraint for a network that's often known for pushing boundaries.
