‘Flatliners’ Trailer: You Haven’t Lived Until You’ve Died
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from movies, it’s not to experiment with death. But that won’t stop one group of young folks from engaging in their fun new pastime of competitive dying. Flatliners, a remake of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 cult film, posits that dying for a couple of minutes gives these kids a new appreciation for the lives they have, until their deaths start to catch up with them. Never play with forces you can’t fully control.

I know that this very web site has declared a personal fatwa against slowed-down pop songs in movie trailers, but I can’t help but feel like the spots advertising the upcoming remake of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 cult object Flatliners won’t be complete until they’ve tapped a creepy children’s choir to cover the Doors’ “Break On Through (To The Other Side).” It’s perfect! The song is about permeating the boundaries between life and death, the film deals with the same topic (only with what appear to be unsettling CGI zombies in the mix), it’s bananas that some enterprising ad executive hasn’t made the connection.

Teen love is simply too pure for this compromised world. (In the movies, anyhow. In real life, the love between teens is like a knockoff version of love you’d buy in Chinatown for eight dollars.) Cancer drove Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort apart in The Fault in Our Stars, and in the new film The Space Between Us, the vague atmospheric chemistry of Earth separates Asa Butterfield from his one true love Britt Robertson. Butterfield’s coming back for seconds at the teen-weepie-romance buffet, too, as a new report from Deadline indicates today.

Christmas means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To the devout, it commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and the symbolic coming of mankind’s heaven-sent savior to the earthly plane. To countless more, it’s a time when we gather together with family and loved ones to share in peace on earth, goodwill toward men, and beverages that combine that wonders of alcohol and dairy. To children, it is one of the several annual occasions on which you get presents. And to adrenaline addicts who like to live life to the limit even when slouching in for an afternoon at the cineplex, it’s when xXx: The Return of Xander Cage parkours into theaters.

“Kick some a--. Get the girl. And try to look dope while you’re doing it.” Seems simple enough, right? Especially when you’re an extreme-athlete-turned-secret-government-operative like Xander Cage is, for example. Vin Diesel is back in action in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and the newest trailer has stunts that may be even more ridiculous than the ocean-motorcycling that was in the first teaser. They certainly look dope, that’s for sure.

We weren’t really interested in a Baywatch movie until Dwayne Johnson got involved — then again, Johnson’s name can guarantee our interest in just about anything. The upcoming big screen version of the classic ’90s TV series is also set to star Zac Efron, and has recently begun its search for some leading ladies. Paramount has reportedly tested a handful of actresses, including one that has some experience working with The Rock already.
