You know that annoying movie trope where the story begins with something wild and crazy before flashing back to explain how we got there? The new ‘The Lazarus Effect’ trailer may be the first movie preview actually guilty of utilizing this tired device. Thankfully, the rest of the film actually looks like a pretty solid mash-up of a bunch of various horror concepts that we happen to dig starring a bunch of people we like, so we’re on board.

Just yesterday we saw the first poster and image from ‘The Lazarus Effect,’ the latest horror flick from Blumhouse Productions, the folks who brought you ‘Insidious’ and last year’s ‘Oculus.’ We were already sold on the film based on the cast alone, but seeing this first trailer really seals the deal. A film in which Mark Duplass and Donald Glover bring a creepy Olivia Wilde back from the dead? We’re totally there.

One of the upcoming horror films that’s definitely on our radar in 2015 is ‘The Lazarus Effect,’ a new film from Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions—the same folks behind ‘Paranormal Activity’ and ‘Oculus’ (as well as awards season favorite ‘Whiplash’). Their latest film has a pretty outstanding cast, including Olivia Wilde, who is featured in the first photo and poster, along with her very black and very terrifying eyeballs.

Well, we can’t say for sure as a high-profile project from the likes of Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger has ever gone so long through development without an actual title, but HBO officially likes the sweet sounds of “Untitled Rock ‘N’ Roll Project.” The Bobby Cannavale-led ‘70s drama has an official series pickup, with cast from the likes of Olivia Wilde to Ray Romano, and even a beloved ‘Legend of Korra’ star.

The always-welcome weirdness of Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s IFC ‘Portlandia’ will return in 2015 for its fifth season (might it be the last?) on January 8, and this season might be the biggest yet. The first full trailer for ‘Portlandia’ season 5 has eco-biked its way down the hill, bringing an “epic” tone and more guest stars than we can rightly shake an organic celery stalk at.

It amuses us to no end that HBO's forthcoming period rock and roll drama from the likes of 'Boardwalk Empire' Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger still hasn't settled on a title, yet continually expands its cast to biblical proportions. Although it doesn't yet have a title, HBO's forthcoming Mick Jagger-Martin Scorsese ’70s-set rock drama has intrigued more and more with the casting of leading actor Bobby Cannavale ('Boardwalk Empire') and Olivia Wilde. Now, in lieu of actually naming the thing, the new HBO drama has taken yet another surprise move in casting sitcom icon Ray Romano among its regulars.

We were a bit bummed to learn that 'Boardwalk Empire' showrunner Terence Winter had accepted a season 5 end to the HBO prohibition drama in order to develop his new 1970s New York rock drama with Bobby Cannavale, Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese, but the proposed series just got a whole lot prettier.
