'Saving Mr. Banks' First Look: Another Oscar For Tom Hanks?

Oscar campaigns are not won with a single photograph. And yet, when you show we a picture of Tom Hanks playing famed entertainment mogul Walt Disney in the upcoming film ‘Saving Mr. Banks’...well, we're convinced the two-time Oscar winner can reserve a seat in the Dolby Theatre for the 2014 Oscars, because a nomination seems likely.

'Gravity' Starts 2014 Oscars Campaign With Premiere at the Venice Film Festival

On the surface, Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Gravity’ seems like it could be a major contender for the 2014 Oscars. Lead actors George Clooney and Sandra Bullock each already have Oscars on their shelves. Cuaron, himself, has been nominated three times (for ‘Children of Men’ and ‘Y Tu Mama, Tambien’) and appears to be an Academy favorite. Bu,t does Warner Bros. view ‘Gravity’ as an awards contender, or as a white-knuckle sci-fi thriller from a masterful filmmaker with two A-list stars at his disposal?
News that dropped this morning points to the former.

We have been keeping track of the features screening at the Cannes Film Festival, listening for buzz surrounding possible 2014 Oscar contenders that could be holding coming-out parties on the Croisette.
Well, the awards needle starting moving on Saturday evening when Joel and Ethan Coen’s latest, ‘Inside Llewyn Davis,’ started screening for critics and crowds. So will this be another awards contender for the Coens?

2014 Oscars: Seth MacFarlane Asked to Host Again

At this year Oscars, Seth MacFarlane caused quite a controversy as he hosted the ceremony with a number of risque bits and jokes (most notably the "We Saw Your Boobs" song from the opening monologues) but that was exactly what Oscar producers hoped MacFarlane would bring to the normally staid production. The 'Family Guy' creator previously said he has no interest in returning, the producers seemed to have liked the controversy (and the ratings that went with it) and MacFarlane has officially been invited to return to host the 2014 Oscars.

Cinematographer Calls 'Life of Pi' Oscar Win "A Total F---ing Piece of S---"

'Life of Pi' won the 2013 Oscar for Best Cinematography with director of photography Claudio Miranda taking home the Academy Award for his work. The win was mildly controversial since a) Roger Deakins was again denied an Oscar for his beautiful work on 'Skyfall' and b) 'Life of Pi' was largely constructed in the digital space (the film also took home the Best Visual Effects Oscar). Any existing debate over the 'Life of Pi' win took a big leap forward this morning when veteran cinematographer Christopher Doyle spoke out against the Oscar saying, "it’s a f---ing insult to cinematography." And he was only getting started...
