The majority of NBC's Thursday comedy line-up returns this week (minus 'Community,' tear), and we're thrilled to see the long wait for 'The Office' and 'Parks and Recreation' finally come to a close. But if there's one thing to be cheerful for apart from waffles covered in whipped cream, it's a comedy that issues a full trailer for it's upcoming season! That's right, our best look yet at 'Parks and Recreation' season 5 has arrived, so halt your perm session for a moment and watch!
Parks and Recreation
'Parks and Recreation' season 5 has earned itself some major genre cred over the last couple of weeks, casting both the warrior princess herself, Lucy Lawless, as a love interest for Ron Swanson, and yesterday 'Breaking Bad's' Jonathan Banks, but not every guest spot can be so well known to us geeks. If 'Parks and Recreation' had such enthusiasm in casting Banks for the part of Ben's father, who could possibly fill the role of his mother?
See? We knew nothing could bring down the great Mike Ehrmantraut. As distressed as we were to learn that 'Breaking Bad' star Jonathan Banks (theoretically) wouldn't be present for the show's final eight episodes, the one-time menstruation expert needn't wait very long for his next gig. Banks will next bring his menacing mug to season 5 of 'Parks and Recreation,' but as whom? And will his character take full measures against the Parks Department?
As happy as we were for Ben Schwartz' success to learn that the star had graduated beyond 'Parks and Recreation' into a regular role on Showtime's 'House of Lies,' renewed through season 2, we had to mourn for the reduced presence of Pawnee's most opportunistic hipster this side of Aziz Anisari. Schwartz managed to sneak pack for a cameo appearance in 'Parks and Rec' finale "Win, Lose or Draw," but how much can we expect to see him in the coming season?
What, Leslie Knope didn't have enough on her plate with becoming a member of Pawnee's City Council, and losing her boyfriend to a position in Washington D.C., now she's gone and got herself another enemy? It's a rocky road ahead for 'Parks and Recreation' season 5, as whole new challenges await both the eternally optimistic Leslie, and the department itself, but who specifically will stand in their way? And why doesn't his face seem familiar?
Have you ever looked up on the glorious mane that is Ron Swanson's mustache on 'Parks and Recreation' and thought to yourself, "By golly, I'd really like to own that mustache and feed it only the finest tender vittles and sing it to sleep every night in its very own miniature Sleep Number bed?" Well, now you can.
(P.S.: Ron Swanson's mustache's sleep number is pork.)
We're torn by what might be the coolest casting of the day. Should the honor got to 'Torchwood' star John Barrowman for taking a role in The CW's 'Arrow' or Xena herself for Lucy Lawless' just-announced turn in 'Parks and Recreation' season 5?! Chakram to our head, we've got to go with Lucy Lawless. The also-'Spartacus' star has landed a multi-episode arc in Pawnee, Indiana, but who will the actress play? Will Ron Swanson rise to the occasion?
Oh, you thought 'Parks and Recreation' was kidding when they gave Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) a job in Washingon D.C. during the show's fourth season finale "Win, Lose or Draw?" Knope! And more than actually shooting on location at the nation's capital, the show has actually recruited major real-life politicians for the effort! Just which Washington bigwigs will be popping by to shake hands and say hello?
