Normally, you’d dread the fourth entry in any beloved film series, but it feels kind of okay to have positive thoughts about Toy Story 4. After all, its three predecessors are among the strongest films in Pixar’s mostly untouchable library. If anyone can make the fourth feature-length adventure of a cowboy doll and his friends sing, it’s these guys. So, without further ado, here’s what the film is about, straight from the mouth of Pixar founder and Disney chief creative officer John Lasseter,

Disney’s annual convention dedicated to itself, D23 (named, I assume, after the number of dollars you have left in your bank account after you go and buy lots of cool Disney swag), kicks off today, so expect plenty of news and announcements coming...
Hey, did you know there was going to be an Inside Out sequel short included in the film’s Blu-ray and DVD release? We didn’t either! But there’s going to one and the first clip from the short, titled “Riley’s First Date,” is online and everything.
While Cars would eventually come to be about hotshot racing car Lightning McQueen, Cars was originally titled “The Yellow Car” and was going to be about an electric car living in a gas-guzzling world. This is just one of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which speeds off with Cars!
Marvel abstained from Comic-Con this year and Lucasfilm didn’t bring any new Star Wars footage to San Diego (that behind the scenes featurette was great, though), but we knew we wouldn’t have to wait much longer for Disney to show off these two highly anticipated properties — the studio’s D23 expo is approaching, and sure enough, Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar will all have a major presence.
When our own Matt Singer got a first look at Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, he wrote that the film looks unlike anything the beloved animation studio has made yet. Now that the first full trailer for the film has arrived, it’s difficult to disagree. This is one beautiful looking movie and this wordless trailer lets those visuals sell the movie on their own.
Buzz Lightyear is one of the most recognizable characters in modern Disney history. But, before he was Buzz, he was a character from the Pixar short film, Tin Toy. Once they decided to make the character a modern toy, he was renamed “Lunar Larry” and “Tempus From Morph” before they settled on Buzz Lightyear. This is just one of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which takes off with Toy Story!
Sort of like SNL’s famous fake commercials, this new mock ad for Pixar Depression accurately satirizes the studio’s latest animated film, Inside Out. Pixar’s newest film has been praised by many as their greatest effort to date thanks to its surprisingly complex exploration of emotions, but you can’t help but laugh at this video, which deftly mocks Riley for sulking through her first world problems.
Like all of Pixar’s films, Finding Nemo has a lot of references to other movies, past and present. If you look closely you can spot characters from The Incredibles, Toy Story and Cars, plus lots of other fun references from the Pixar team. This is just one of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which just keeps swimming with Finding Nemo!
Disney and Pixar invited a bunch of journalists to a screening room in New York City earlier today for an hourlong presentation about the film, its characters, and about Sohn himself, who discussed his life story and his journey from film nerd to full-fledged Pixar director. Here are a few notes from the event:
