by Mike Ryan October 10, 2014 @ 1:38 PM
Coinciding with New York Comic Con, Pixar is promoting its new short film, ‘Lava,’ that will play before the theatrical release of ‘Inside Out’ next June. ‘Lava,’ directed by James Ford Murphy, is the story of a lonely volcano who sings – in a style inspired by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole’s version of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ – in an attempt to find his one true love. It’s a sweet story that will garner attention as all the Pixar shorts seem to do – and can serve as a springboard for feature length animated films. How does one get an animated short approved by Pixar? Here, ‘Lava’ director James Ford Murphy explains the process, which started on a napkin.

While the latter hit a couple production snags along the way, Disney and Pixar have released the first 'Inside Out' trailer with the first footage from the film.

When it was first announced that Disney was purchasing Marvel, the minds of many fans leapt immediately to the possibility of a Disney-Pixar animated Marvel movie. We're sorta getting that in November with 'Big Hero 6' but as that movie approaches, it's become very clear that it's not really much of Marvel movie at all, other than being loosely based on the obscure 90s comic. What fans really want to know is if we'll ever see a Disney or Pixar animated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. John Lasseter, who runs both Disney Animation and Pixar, has your answer: no.

2014 has been a long year. It's the first time since 2005 that we haven't had a Pixar movie and we're feeling a little withdrawal. The good news is that 2015 brings us two new Pixar movies, including 'Inside Out', the next film from Oscar-winning director Pete Docter ('Up'). While some were lucky enough to see the opening five minutes at a Pixar preview earlier this year, the first public release 'Inside Out' footage was made available today on the Disney Anywhere app. And, maybe it's the Pixar withdrawal speaking, but we're starting to get really excited.

Since 2006's 'Cars' Pixar has pumped out a film a year, but production delays in 'The Good Dinosaur' mean that they're sitting out 2014, and the company is not used to taking this much time off. And so last night -- a year to the day before they release it -- director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera presented a scene and the opening five minutes of 'Inside Out.'

For the first year since 2005 we won't be getting a new full-length Pixar film, and while that's kind of a bummer to think about, we do have some wonderful Pixar news to share today. The studio has released an official synopsis for one of two (yes, two) new films aimed for released in 2015: Pete Docter's 'Inside Out.' And, as a bonus, the studio has debuted a new 'Cars' short on its Disney Movies Anywhere platform today, just in time for the holiday.

Two new parents in Santa Clara, California have a young daughter who loves the Pixar movie 'Up,' so they did what any awesome parent would do: they gave their Victorian home a fresh coat of paint to look like Carl and Ellie's house from the movie. It's adorable! But, the Charles Muntz's of the neighborhood aren't so happy and have complained to the Old Quad Residents Association about the new look. You might say they got all UP in arms about it....
