Lucky as we were to get a second season of NBC's 'Hannibal' for its moderate ratings, doubts began to creep early on as opposing projects seemed to pull away more prominent guest stars like Gillian Anderson of 'The X-Files' and Raul Esparza of 'Law & Order.' While we wait for 'Hannibal' season 2's likely 2014 debut, however, it seems both stars will return in at least some capacity.
The first 'Hannibal' season finale "Savoureux" certainly made it appear as if we'd be spending quite a bit of time in the Baltimore State Hospital next season, but it seems one of the staff might enjoy a temporary sabbatical. Actor Raul Esparza has officially been upgraded to series regular from his recurring role on 'Law & Order: SVU' as ADA Rafael Barba, so might we be seeing less of Dr. Frederick Chilton?
Though the series itself has yet to secure a mid-season premiere date, we've been hearing quite a bit about the various Bryan Fuller alum chosen to take part in the director's upcoming NBC drama 'Hannibal,' an adaptation of author Thomas Harris' classic Hannibal Lecter mythos. And while most castings have focused on original characters, we've just learned that Fuller vet Raul Esparza has been cast as the classic seedy character Dr. Frederick Chilton! So how long will the good doctor be in for?
