Any House of Cards fan knows that Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood is likely destined to move from First Lady to President herself. Now, Wright is already looking back at the tenure of First Ladies, teaming with Reese Witherspoon’s production company to direct and produce and adaptation of First Women: The Grace & Power Of America’s Modern First Ladies.

A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L’Engle’s beautiful and strange book about a young girl named Meg Murry who journeys through space and time to fins her scientist father, is being adapted into a film by Ava DuVernay. Not much is known about the cast at this point, but today two familiar faces have joined the project.

This is a big year for animated movies featuring talking animals: Zootopia, Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets and now, Sing. But what sets the latest adventure apart from its animated brethren is right there in the title, and you can get a taste of what’s in store this Christmas thanks to a new extended trailer, featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey and a whole bunch of other people you really like.

Alexander Payne has traded muses, with his one-time Election star Reese Witherspoon stepping out of his developing project titled Downsizing to go pursue work elsewhere. (There’s no bad blood between the former collaborators, according to Deadline, the break was purely a matter of scheduling complications.) For her replacement, Payne went in a bit of a different direction. Though she does not share Witherspoon’s good-ol’-southern-gal charm or the combination of slight-statured cuteness and raw determination that made Election such a treat, SNL-alum-turned-movie-star Kristen Wiig will make for a perfect addition to the Payneverse. Payne’s last film, the tone-perfect small-town satire Nebraska, tapped Will Forte — another SNL vet — for a rare dramatic role and reaped massive dividends. Hopefully, he’ll be able to pull off the same feat with Wiig.

The first trailer for Sing has arrived, and it’s filled with stuff you’ll recognize (and probably like): Cute animated animals, the smooth voice of Matthew McConaughey, hit pop songs, music competitions and…that laughably terrible “Butterfly” song that people sometimes put on at parties as an endurance test for their friends (note: these are not good people).

Reese Witherspoon has begun development on a biopic of Ruth Handler, best known as the creator behind the Barbie doll.

Not to be confused with Sony’s live-action Barbie movie that’s hitting theaters in 2017, Reese Witherspoon is developing her own Barbie project, but this one isn’t a fictional adventure starring the iconic doll. Instead, Witherspoon is teaming up with her producing partner Bruna Papandrea to tell Barbie’s origin story with a new film based on the book Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her.

The dulcet tones of Matthew McConaughey are capable of anything. They bring an easygoing charm to the variety of laid-back characters that he plays on film, they were almost able to gloss over the fact that nothing McConaughey was saying in those Lincoln commercials made a lick of sense, and they’ve surely sweet-talked many a barmaid at the end of the night as the local watering hole clears out...

The sudden development and greenlight of ABC’s upcoming Muppets series left it vaguely unclear how the gang would function in a regular mockumentary format, but Kermit and Miss Piggy dropped by TCA to offer a clue. The series will revolve around the behind-the-scenes workings of Piggy’s own late-night talk show, complete with real guests the likes of Imagine Dragons or Reese Witherspoon.

Add yet another live-action project to Disney’s growing pile: the studio is developing a live-action film for Peter Pan’s magical sidekick Tinker Bell, who has earned a rather large following in her own right with various animated films and merchandise. In addition to the announcement of this new development, we’ve also learned that Disney has performed a little casting magic, landing Reese Witherspoon for the title role — which is some seriously perfect casting.
