It’s been over a year since Blade Runner 2 tapped Sicario director Denis Villeneuve to helm, with Ryan Gosling joining Harrison Ford in the long-developing sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic. With filming slated to begin this summer, the project is really starting to come together, with Robin Wright joining the cast as of yesterday, while today brings an interesting potential new addition: Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista.

It’s hard to imagine any kind of AMC horror that doesn’t involve walking corpses these days, but Ridley Scott and David Kajganich may at last succeed in changing that. AMC has officially given a 2017 series order to The Terror, based on the Dan Simmons novel of an arctic monster chasing 1847 sailors.

Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien: Covenant’ Gets an Earlier Release Date

20th Century Fox
Although Alien: Covenant is a horror film, its planned October 2017 release seemed a little too on-the-nose, especially for a blockbuster sci-fi project. With an increasingly excellent cast, we’re fairly excited for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien prequel, which makes today’s news of an earlier release date pretty wonderful.

Tom Hardy Gives Good Crazy in FX Ridley Scott ‘Taboo’ Trailer

FX / BBC
Tom Hardy isn’t a name one easily lures back to TV these days, at least not on the American side, but an eight-part miniseries venture between FX and the BBC gets the Mad Max: Fury Road star grunting under a crazy hat, and naked in the snow straightaway. Take it in, as FX debuts Hardy’s new Ridley Scott-produced period drama.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Adds Billy Crudup, ‘Empire’s Jussie Smollett and More People You Like

The cast of Ridley Scott’s new Alien prequel just keeps growing — and getting more interesting, but for as much as we like the actors signing on for Alien: Covenant, it’s going to be kind of a bummer watching them get slaughtered by Xenomorphs and also, presumably, Michael Fassbender. The latest batch of actors to join the cast of Scott’s prequel includes Spotlight’s Billy Crudup, Empire’s Jussie Smollett, indie favorite Amy Seimetz and more.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Adds ‘The Hateful Eight’ Star Demian Bichir

The cast for Alien: Covenant is certainly shaping up to be a good one, and if nothing else, we’ll soon be able to see a new Alien prequel starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride (!!!) — that’s a pretty solid lineup thus far, but it just got a bit more solid with the addition of The Hateful Eight star Demian Bichir.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Eyes Danny McBride, Becomes Instantly Cooler

An Alien prequel starring Danny McBride? This could seriously be the movie we never knew we always wanted. In a bit of news that is equal parts surprising and kind of awesome, the former Eastbound and Down star and master of obnoxious humor is in talks to join Alien: Covenant, which seems to indicate that Ridley Scott may very well indeed be a genius. An evil genius, but a genius.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Will Not Bring Back Noomi Rapace After All

20th Century Fox
Although Ridley Scott recently said that Noomi Rapace would reprise her role — albeit briefly — as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Alien: Covenant, the director has now determined that the actress will actually not be returning for the upcoming Prometheus sequel / Alien prequel. Many assumed we might see how her ill-advised adventure with Michael Fassbender’s David panned out, though it’s fair to assume that things didn’t go so well.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Will Have a ‘Pretty Hard R’ Rating, According to Ridley Scott

An R-rated Alien film is hardly surprising, given that each film in the franchise — Prometheus included — has carried that restricted rating. But if you were somehow concerned that Ridley Scott might be getting a bit soft, fear not, as the director assures fans that he’s not only aiming for an R-rating with Alien: Covenant, but he’s going for a “pretty hard R.”
