Hollywood's latest remake that isn't necessary and makes us want to vomit cyborg feeding baby food is Paul Verhoven's 'Robocop,' the 1987 thriller which so perfectly used violence and dark humor that it's one of the greatest action films of all time. At least a worthy actor will be joining the remake being helmed by Jose Padilha.
We all got a good laugh last year when a few enterprising fans took to the internet with their idea to build a statue of RoboCop in the character's hometown of Detroit. (Philadelphia has a 'Rocky' statue, they argued.) The online campaign raised of $65,000 dollars but, as the Kickstarter page notes: "None of us have ever made a giant solid metal permanent sculpture before." So, yeah, it was a funny little internet meme for a month or so and most of us went and moved on with our lives.
Except the 'RoboCop' statue is actually happening.
MGM is making progress on their long-gestating remake of 'Robocop.' The film, which had visionary director Darren Aronofsky attached at one time, has found new life under 'Elite Squad' director Jose Padilha.
Now comes word that they may have found someone to fill the clunky metal shoes of Peter Weller...
