After David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake you were likely expecting an adaptation of the sequel to Stieg Larsson’s book, The Girl Who Played with Fire. While it doesn’t look like Sony will be playing with fire any time soon, they do have a new Lisbeth Salander in mind.

After the blockbuster offerings of summer we have the fall and winter movie season to look forward to, which offers some very exciting prospects — and while many (us included) are looking forward to new Star Wars, Quentin Tarantino and Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, there’s one film that’s a little less showy and perhaps a little under your radar: Carol, the upcoming drama from acclaimed director Todd Haynes, which has just unveiled a new official trailer.
Director Todd Haynes has not made a feature film since 2007's I’m Not There, although he did direct the excellent five-part Mildred Pierce miniseries for HBO back in 2011. Fans of the director will be thrilled to watch this new trailer for Carol, Haynes’ first film in eight years — and it looks like a real stunner.
After the previous promotional images and trailers for Joe Wright’s slightly-delayed Pan movie, you probably don’t even need to see these new character posters to have an idea of what they’d look like. But here they are anyway, in all their vibrant, well-lit and detailed glory. And wouldn’t you know it, but Hugh Jackman is still rocking that sick cartoon villain mustache.
A few weeks ago, David Fincher seemed to drum up trouble with HBO, as the future of both his music comedy Video Synchronicity and U.K.-adapted Gillian Flynn collaboration Utopia came into doubt. Now, Utopia has officially been shelved at the network, simultaneously revealing its cast of Rooney Mara, Colm Feore and more.
We weren’t terribly broken up to learn that David Fincher’s ‘80s music comedy Video Synchronicity had halted production, though those angling for his and Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn’s take on U.K. series Utopia, complete with Rooney Mara in the lead, may be in for some bad news. Neither may happen now, as HBO may not see eye to eye with Fincher anymore
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from the front of Gone Girl pair David Fincher and Gillian Flynn’s Utopia adaptation at HBO, but with Fincher’s Video Synchronicity seemingly on ice, Utopia may again rise. And what better way to get things moving, than reuniting with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara?
On the master list of characters who deserve exhausting origin stories that go into every single detail about how they came to be, Peter Pan is somewhere near the very bottom. So we can get all smug and dismissive of the new Pan trailer, which has its fair share or eye-rolling moments, or we can get excited that director Joe Wright has a new film on the horizon and hope for the best.

The first ‘Star Wars’ standalone film is set to hit theaters in 2016, and although it’s currently seeking a replacement screenwriter, it looks as though production is gearing up on the Gareth Edwards project.
