Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse

You thought Halloween would see a horror movie lurch its way to the top of the box office? You thought wrong. Once again, The Martian took the number one spot at the box office this weekend, locking it in as the film of October 2015. Of the past five weekends, it only dropped out of first place once and even then, it was a very close second...

Make a mental checklist of things you’d expect to see in a red band trailer for a movie titled Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. Got it? Okay. Now watch the trailer above and realize that this movie, for better or worse, has it all. We can reserve actual judgment for when the movie actually opens in theaters, but based on this preview, no one can accuse this movie of not going for a “kitchen sink” approach to this concept.

It’s a little strange that we haven’t seen a proper teaser or trailer for Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (formerly titled Scouts vs. Zombies), but Paramount has rectified that today with our first look at the upcoming horror comedy. In the fun little video above, we learn how to earn a wildlife badge — it involves dealing with a zombie cat.

Major theater chains have been resisting the ongoing shortening of release date windows, which put new movie releases on VOD before they even leave theaters, sometimes on the very same day as their theatrical debuts. In a move that should make theater chains even more weary, Paramount is tightening those windows with two of their upcoming horror releases — Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.
