Weekend Box Office Report: ‘American Sniper’ Meets Its Match in SpongeBob Squarepants

by Jacob Hall February 8, 2015 @ 12:30 PM
After spending nearly a month dominating the box office, the mighty ‘American Sniper’ has fallen. And no, it did not fall to the massively expensive sci-fi epic ‘Jupiter Ascending’ and it didn’t fall to the massively expensive fantasy epic ‘Seventh Son,’ both of which arrived with a thud. No, it fell to a cartoon sea sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea.

Jeff Bridges Finally Explains His Weird Super Bowl Commercial

by Kate Erbland February 5, 2015 @ 3:41 PM
Jeff Bridges really, really, really wants to help you sleep. The 'Seventh Son' star recently popped up during the Super Bowl, touting, well, something during a somewhat strange and somewhat soothing commercial spot. Turns out, Bridges is actually selling what it looks like he's selling: sleep. Wait, what?

‘Seventh Son’ Review: Jeff Bridges Battles Julianne Moore, the Nagging Sense This Is a Crummy Movie

by Matt Singer February 5, 2015 @ 8:38 AM
This is the sort of week that makes a film critic questions their life choices: First, the Wachowski’s choppy, incoherent ‘Jupiter Ascending,’ and now the long-delayed (and likely soon-forgotten) ‘Seventh Son.’ Its trailer boasts that it comes “from the production company that brought you ‘300: Rise of an Empire,’” which is sort of like trying to convince someone to eat in a restaurant because the manager used to work in an Olive Garden. Isn’t January supposed to be the month where all the bad movies get dumped? The clunkers are spreading to February like a fungus.

10 Delayed Movies That Were Actually Pretty Good

by Matt Singer February 4, 2015 @ 1:28 PM
This week’s big new releases, ‘Jupiter Ascending’ and ‘Seventh Son,’ share something in common. Both were originally due out months ago, and delayed until this week for a variety of reasons. There is a widely-held assumption that delays can be directly correlated with quality, and that when something gets bumped off the release calendar it guarantees the movie is a dud. Now that assumption might be right this week, but films get delayed all the time for many reasons—and even if that reason is because they needs additional work, that doesn’t mean the revisions won’t be successful. While there have been plenty of delayed stinkers in Hollywood history (the ‘Red Dawn’ remake could have remained unreleased forever as far as I’m concerned), there’s also been a surprising number of movies that were held back unfairly; enough to suggest that this stereotype needs to be rethought, and to assemble the following list of good to flat-out great films that sat on a shelf:

New ‘Seventh Son’ Trailer is Here to Remind You That This Movie Still Exists

by Jacob Hall January 3, 2015 @ 9:20 AM
The new ‘Seventh Son’ trailer is startling reminder that yes, this movie still exists and wasn’t something our addled brains cooked up while we were bed-ridden and battling a fever. Someone actually shot a movie where the great Jeff Bridges, complete with his trademark Rooster Cogburn mumble, plays a witch-hunting, monster-slaying magical warrior. And yes, you do remember correctly: this thing was supposed to come out in 2013 and yes, it was delayed to 2015. The word you’re looking for there is “Yikes.”

'Seventh Son' Trailer: Legend and Nightmare Are Real!

Legendary, Universal
Remember that Jeff Bridges movie 'Seventh Son'? It was supposed to hit theaters this year, and we even got a Comic-Con 2013 panel from the film, but Legendary and Universal pushed it to 2015. Now, a new 'Seventh Son' trailer has been released to pretty much remind us all that it's still happening ... and that it kinda looks like what 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' would've looked like without that R rating.

'Warcraft' Blinks and Moves Away From 'Star Wars: Episode 7' as Universal Dates Future Titles

by Damon Houx November 27, 2013 @ 5:35 PM
Duncan Jones' 'Warcraft' was originally scheduled for release on December 18, 2015, which it called before 'Star Wars: Episode 7' announced when it would be hitting theaters (many thought the new 'Star Wars' would go with mid-May as with all the previous films). But now that 'Episode 7' has picked the same weekend, 'Warcraft' blinked and has moved to March 11, 2016.

Comic-Con 2013: 'Seventh Son' and 'The LEGO Movie' Panels

Warner Bros.
Legendary Pictures brought an impressive amount of titles from their upcoming slate to Comic-Con 2013. In addition to the much-hyped 'Godzilla' reboot and the George Clooney- and 'Gravity,' 'Seventh Son' and 'The LEGO Movie' got their time to shine in the buzzing Hall H on Saturday, Jul. 20.

'Seventh Son' Trailer: Jeff Bridges Will Teach You How to Kill a Witch

by Jacob Hall July 10, 2013 @ 12:58 PM
We're not entirely sure when Jeff Bridges officially became the go-to casting for "grizzled old mentor," but the 'Seventh Son' trailer shows him taking on that role yet again. In fact, the mere presence of Bridges elevates what otherwise looks like a fairly generic fantasy story into something that may be worth catching.
