'Star Trek 3' Has "Kick Ass Role" for Idris Elba
It was announced a little while ago that Idris Elba is joining the cast of Star Trek 3, in which he’ll play the film’s big villain. Many fans quickly began speculating about which classic Star Trek villain Elba might be playing, with a Klingon being the most popular theory. Simon Pegg, who is now scripting the film, has confirmed that Elba is definitely not playing a Klingon — in fact, he’s not playing anyone who you’re familiar with at all.

April Fools’ Day is an occasion marked by silliness. Many websites choose to celebrate by tricking their readers with goofy pranks. But for every one of these hoaxes that’s funny, there are ten more that are terrible (plus our budget would not allow us to turn the site into ScreenFlush, the #1 place on the Internet dedicated to movie toilets, for a single day). So instead, let’s honor some humor professionals; the men and women who’ve made the best comedies of the last 25 years.

Simon Pegg Says 'Star Trek 3' Will Be More Like TV Series
It was good news when Roberto Orci left the director’s chair on Star Trek 3. It was really good news when Fast and Furious franchise director Justin Lin took over. And it was even better news when it was announced that Simon Pegg would take over scripting duties, officially getting us excited for the third installment in the franchise after the somewhat disappointing Star Trek Into Darkness. And now Pegg is getting our hopes up even more, promising that the upcoming sequel is inspired by the original Star Trek television series.

We know Simon Pegg best for his more comedic roles, but he’s occasionally shown us a bit of his darker side, most recently with his particularly cynical role in Edgar Wright’s The World’s End. But his new film, Kill Me Three Times, takes Pegg full throttle to the dark side as a hitman rocking a pretty sweet mustache and toting a huge gun. The new red band trailer spares no bloody expense in illustrating this darkly comedic tale of violence and plots gone awry.

A big reason why Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol became the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s history was its spectacular use of the IMAX format (and the IMAX ticket upcharge) to give its action scenes — and particularly Tom Cruise’s Spider-Man-like climb up the side of the Burj Khalifa — a unique scale and scope. Not surprisingly, then, Paramount has announced that when the next Mission: Impossible comes to theaters in July, it will do so on IMAX screens all over the world.

Here’s even more good news for you regarding the previously troubled production of ‘Star Trek 3’: now that ‘Fast and Furious’ director Justin Lin has taken over directing duties following the departure of Roberto Orci, the upcoming ‘Trek’ installment has just beamed itself up a new writer to course-correct the screenplay. Simon Pegg—Scotty himself—will now lend his writing talents to the script alongside Doug Jung.

Here’s some fun news for a slow post-holiday weekend: a theater company in the UK has received Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s blessings for their live stage production of ‘Shaun of the Dead.’ Based on Wright’s debut feature film, the stage show includes musical sequences, audience participation, and encourages fans to come dressed as zombies or their favorite characters. Similar in spirit to the long-running tradition of ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ late night shadow performances, the ‘Shaun’ stage show is a recreation of the modern classic. And to celebrate their upcoming tour of the show, the company has released this pretty neat little trailer.

Simon Pegg has built his career on playing charming, affable everymen, but ‘Kill Me Three Times’ presents him with a different sort of role: a charming, affable assassin. Decked out in a black suit and rocking the hell out of a sleazy mustache, the film looks like a delightful left turn for an actor who could have easily coasted for the rest of his career. Hopefully, there are more surprises lurking in the film than what is revealed in the first trailer.
