Syfy's '12 Monkeys' TV Series casts 'X-Men' Star in Bruce Willis Role

We were more excited than annoyed when Syfy announced its intent to reboot classic Terry Gilliam-Bruce Willis timebender '12 Monkeys' as a TV series, even moreso now that casting has begun. 'Nikita' and 'X-Men' franchise star Aaron Stanford will take the role once played by Bruce Willis in the big-screen adaptation, while another will fill Madeline Stowe's role, and producers have been chosen as well.

Thanks to the millions of people who tuned into, tweeted, and confused their moms on Facebook about 'Sharknado,' SyFy is continuing to ride the shark schlock horror wave with 'Avalanche Sharks,' which is exactly what it sounds like. But in case you need more of an explanation, you can watch this trailer for the upcoming "film," which continues SyFy's tradition of featuring purposely bad movies for those who find actual movies to be just a bit too demanding of their intellectual faculties.

Over the summer we got our first look at 'Battlestar Galactica' creator Ron Moore's return to Syfy with the announcement of virology drama 'Helix,' though at the time no footage or photos of the dark new series were available. Finally, the virus has begun to spread as Syfy's 'Helix' has leaked out in the first disgusting photographs!

All week long we've been talking about the hot movie franchises turning to TV to extend their longevity, though in the case of Syfy and 'X-Men' director Bryan Singer's latest co-venture, we only need a dash of something monstrous. Singer will helm a kaiju-themed monster drama pilot for Syfy titled 'Creature At Bay,' putting a new twist on the monster destruction genre for an ongoing series.

Syfy has been culling from the well of genre movies for its latest TV developments, most recently greenlighting the pilot for a '12 Monkeys' series, while today brings our first casting for 'Legion' sequel series 'Dominion.' Former 'Kings' star Christopher Egan will head up the cast, backed by 'LOST' baddie Alan Dale and '300' star Tom Wisdom, but how closely will the new story follow the 2010 film?

A few weeks ago we heard the surprising possibility that Terry Gilliam-Bruce Willis-Brad Pitt sci-fi classic '12 Monkeys' had been eyed for a potential TV series adaptation on Syfy, and it seems that reality has officially come to pass. Syfy has officially greenlit a pilot for the '12 Monkeys' TV series, said to follow the 'Battlestar Galactica' model of development, but will the series follow the same plot as the movie?
