We’ve gotten a glimpse of Sylvester Stallone’s Netflix Ultimate Beastmaster before, but the full preview is far more awe (and terror)-inspiring. See for yourself in the first official trailer, as international competitors face the largest obstacle course set ever built for an unscripted series.
Just as Rocky Balboa inspired the world with his perseverance and courage in the face of overwhelming opposition, Sylvester Stallone inspired the people of America last month by not accepting President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to head the National Endowment for the Arts, stating that he’d rather devote his energies to moviemaking. In a gesture alien to Trump and his administration, Stallone has now followed through on his earlier words, bringing increased attention to the plight of soldiers reintegrating into society with a planned new feature. And he‘s going to start by cutting off Adam Driver’s arms and legs.
It’s officially awards season, and with potential nominee shortlists come presenter announcements. Today, three more stars will join Anna Kendrick and Steve Carell at the Golden Globes, as it was announced today that Viola Davis, Sylvester Stallone, and Priyanka Chopra will join the ranks of the 2017 presenters.
Netflix’s push to dominate your every waking hour will continue globally with 2017 international reality competition Ultimate Beastmaster, as executive produced by none other than Sylvester Stallone. Now, we know what day will debut all episodes of the worldwide event, as revealed in a first-look trailer.
Even as an aging action star, Sylvester Stallone has kept up a steady pace. The actor has spent the past few years alternating between action vehicles and voice over work on children’s movies, always outpacing Hollywood obsolescence with his incredible work ethic and his willingness to not deviate from the ’80s action formula that helped make him a star. And while plenty of Stallone fans were pleased to see the actor pull in a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Creed, with Stallone’s latest production troubles, one cannot help but wonder if this will have an effect on the types of movies he makes going forward.
It’s been quite A Day, and we’ll forgive you for being distracted by the latest political news (aka What Did Anthony Weiner Do This Time?!) — as such, we also regret to inform you that the director of the recent action thriller Criminal is helming a new reboot of Rambo that will not feature Sylvester Stallone, which, if our science is correct, does not sound like a Rambo movie at all.
TV series adapted from Sylvester Stallone’s greatest hits haven’t fared so well between Rambo or The Expendables, but the latter at least may yet fight another day. After FOX passed on the prospect, The Expendables TV series will be shopped to other networks by producer Shane Brennan.
Inevitably unquestioned lord and master of TV, Netflix has been pushing into a variety of different genres for its original programming, and now has Sylvester Stallone himself in mind to take on the reality competition. Sly will executive produce a new international Ultimate Beastmaster competition, as teams from all over the world compete to master an obstacle course.
We’ve seen Sylvester Stallone flirt with TV before, usually in producing, but now Rocky himself may take the leap fulltime. The legendary star has signed on as the lead of Antoine Fuqua’s unattached mafia series Omerta, based on the final novel in Godfather creator Mario Puzo’s mob trilogy.
