Maybe a better title for this fake trailer for a fake faith-based drama would be God's Not Gay, but you can see how that one might have been a bit too risky. In the one sketch that didn't feature guest host Julia Louis-Dreyfus, SNL offers this hilariously silly satire of movies like God's Not Dead (okay, mostly just that movie alone), complete with Lifetime Original movie production values and melodramatic courtroom scenes.

Back in those optimistic days of 2015, SNL made a trumpeting announcement that Taran Killam would succeed series vet Darrell Hammond under Donald Trump’s famous hair, though the impression seemed to have been retired with the presidential candidate’s actual hosting. Hammond has resumed the role ever since, with Killam shifting into the role of Texas senator Ted Cruz, though it seems SNL had in mind to tap Jimmy Fallon’s Trump impression in December, before returning the role to Hammond.

The moment Adam Driver was announced as the first SNL host of 2016, we knew a Star Wars: The Force Awakens sketch would be coming, and the NBC mainstay didn’t disappoint. Ever the human punchline, Donald Trump has braved some of his staunchest comedy critics in pursuit of the 2016 presidency. The blowhard billionaire even made headlines with which SNL player would tackle the role in Season 41, but all bets are off when “The Donald” himself hosts an upcoming November outing.

Donald Trump feels less like an actual human being and more like a comedic monster dreamed up in the SNL writers room, so bringing him into the sketch comedy fray should have been easy. Heck, casting the generally brilliant Taran Killam as the loudmouthed Presidential hopeful is just about perfect. So how did it work out?

And lo, cast veteran Taran Killam has won the role, stepping in for SNL’s resident Trump portrayer (and current announcer) Darrell Hammond.

The variety show has historically proven a tough sell in recent years, but NBC certainly isn’t giving up, and Neil Patrick Harris might well be the man to make it work.
