The Amazing Spider-Man
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be home just in time for Thanksgiving. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that Marc Webb's 'The Amazing Spider-Man' will be swinging his way onto home video (via artificial web-shooters, of course) on November 9th. A Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, 3D Blu-ray combo pack, DVD and Limited Edition Gift Set will all become available on the same date.
Looking back on the 2012 summer movie season so far, it’s the superhero titles that are most notable, both in terms of box office and critical attention. And the big three, ‘The Avengers,’ ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ are all quite interesting in terms of their context within their respective franchises.
One is a new kind of sequel that intersects and interconnects four other series, and which will spawn a similarly extended sequel of its own; another is a mostly redundant reboot; and the last is the third installment in a contained trilogy that potentially could hatch a spin-off or prequel or some other kind of follow up that isn’t a direct continuation of the primary hero.
Following those films, we had a crazy idea for both the title and direction for Marvel mega movie’s sequel: ‘The Avengers Too.’
Consider this weekend a study of three animation companies. Temporarily forget about 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'Ted' and 'Moonrise Kingdom.' What do the box office numbers of 'Ice Age: Continental Drift,' 'Brave' and 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' tell us about their respective studios? 'Ice Age' won the weekend, but is it actually a winner?
With the exception of poor Katy Perry, everyone was a winner at the box office this week. Seriously. Of the top ten films, nine of them either opened well or held well, making this one of the most consistent weekends of the summer season. Filmmakers and studios: pat yourselves on the backs. You've earned this one.
Despite middling online buzz and mixed reviews, the opening day of Marc Webb's 'The Amazing Spider-Man' proved that the wall crawling superhero stil has plenty of webbing left in his web shooters. Or, if you want a non-geek translation, the opening day of the controversial reboot saw the film take in a whole bunch of money, breaking a record in the process.
“Ultimately the audience will tell us if they want one.” That’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ director Marc Webb talking recently about ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ But this is a silly statement because, first of all, the audience didn’t really want a ‘Spider-Man’ reboot yet got one anyway, and, second, Sony has actually been planning the trilogy for a while now. In fact, 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' is already in the rewrite stage, courtesy of ‘Transformers’ scribes Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, and is set for release on May 2, 2014. So what will happen in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2?'
