Chris Hemsworth is a busy man. In addition to being the Marvel movie universe's Thor, the Australian actor has been promoting the upcoming Ron Howard drama 'Rush,' which sees him stepping into the role of Formula One racer James Hunt. However, no interview with Mr. Hemsworth could be complete without asking him about 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron,' but the God of Thunder himself can't spill any details. After all, he doesn't even have any details to spill. He doesn't even know who Ultron is!
The Avengers: Age of Ultron
So much for those rumors that Paul Bettany (as Jarvis) would be playing Ultron... Marvel announced today that Joss Whedon has cast the maniacal, villainous robot in 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' but instead of Bettany (who has voiced Jarvis in all three 'Iron Man' films and 'The Avengers'), we'll instead get...James Spader?
'Avengers' director and current Marvel Studios creative head muckity-muck Joss Whedon has a knack for killing off beloved characters. You need to look to further than 'Buffy,' Firefly,' 'Angel' and, of course, 'The Avengers' for evidence. But, as he prepares to shoot 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' in a few months, will Whedon take things up a notch and, gulp, kill one of the Avengers?
Ever since the title 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' was revealed by Marvel and Joss Whedon at Comic-Con 2013 last month, there's been a lot of talk of how this epic villain will be handled for his big-screen translation. Now it seems we've gotten some (vague) answers from Whedon himself, who opened up about the difference between comic book Ultron and movie Ultron.
Even though 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' won't hit screens until 2015, the casting process is under way and Joss Whedon is looking for his Wanda Maximoff -- also known as The Scarlet Witch -- for the upcoming movie. Previously Saoirse Ronan was the top contender, but it appears she's passed and that the part may have been offered to Elizabeth Olsen.
In Marvel comics canon, the villainous robot Ultron is the creation of scientist/superhero Hank Pym (AKA, Ant-Man). So many fans raised an eyebrow when it was revealed that 'Avengers: Age of Ultron would see the team facing down the villain months before Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man' arrived in theaters (and, that Ant-Man wouldn't be a part of 'Avengers 2'). However, there's a very simple reason why Ultron is making his first cinematic appearance in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and not 'Ant-Man' -- Wright never intended for Pym's nemesis to be in the film in the first place.
