Many a fan of Laura Linney's work on Showtime's acclaimed drama 'The Big C' were saddened to learn that the series had been given a terminal diagnosis (heh), and would close up its four year-run with a truncated final outing. Thought a premiere date has yet to be secured, details of the final season for Cathy and the others have been set in motion, including a title change and some new guest stars. When a series that makes cancer a focal point of the storyline learns that it only has a few episodes to live, the jokes practically write themselves. We however, are above such frivolity, and post-work cocktails are far more pressing. That's why for as easy as it is to make big jokes about 'The Big C' coming to an untimely end next year, we'll still be rather sad to see it go. Rather than mercilessly taunt us with footage after footage, clip after clip, and poster after billboard as HBO has done for the coming second season of 'Game of Thrones,' Showtime has opted for the direct approach when it comes to promoting the return of its upcoming shows.
