Warner Bros. and Amazon have locked down a deal to co-finance a feature adaptation of Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch, that book your mom’s book club and your more literary friends probably read last year. The book earned rave reviews from all sides so a movie deal was not far off, and this week brings news that Ralph Fiennes might star in it.

After acquiring the distribution rights to the acclaimed novel last year, Warner Bros. has finally found a director to bring Donna Tartt’s story to life, and they could do a lot worse than Brooklyn director John Crowley.

Donna Tartt’s ‘The Goldfinch’ has been one of the most talked about books of the last year—spending 39 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and picking up a Pulitzer Prize didn’t hurt, either. Tartt’s novel is getting an inevitable film adaptation thanks to Brett Ratner’s production company and Warner Bros., and has just landed a promising screenwriter to help make the translation from page to screen: Peter Straughan, who previously penned the screenplay for ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.’
