Kim Ji-oon's 'I Saw the Devil' is one of the gnarliest thrillers ever made, a hyper-violent plunge into depravity and mayhem that has to be seen to be believed. It's one of the best recent examples of just how crazy South Korean filmmaking can get, and it's tough to imagine any Hollywood film getting away with what this one does. And, of course, it's getting an American remake. But let's not despair quite yet. It seems to be in good hands.
The guys who brought us the horror film 'You're Next' now turns Dan Stevens from the charmingly handsome gent on 'Downton Abbey' to a trained ex-military killer for 'The Guest,' and the new trailer makes this next effort seem like another home run.
The gents behind that horror hit 'You're Next' are back, and 'The Guest' trailer looks like the duo have another winner on their hands. We've already seen Adam Wingard (director) and Simon Barrett (writer) give audiences a fresh take on home-invasion slasher flicks, and 'The Guest' is another creative spin on classic horror tropes.
Director Adam Wingard and his writing partner Simon Barrett, who last gave us horror favorite 'You're Next,' return with 'The Guest,' a genre throwback to the dark suspense thrillers of the late '80s and early '90s -- but this isn't mimicry or simply homage. Wingard and Barrett put their wryly sinister spin on this consistently engaging and unnerving story, throwing in a dash of classic John Carpenter for good measure. And who knew 'Downton Abbey' star Dan Stevens could be such a badass?
