'The Hobbit' fans know that this week marks Tolkien Week, which is extra special do to it also being the 75th anniversary of 'The Hobbit's' publication date and all. Plus, September 22 is "Hobbit Day," the day in the book series of both Bilbo and Frodo's birthdays. So, what better way to celebrate this extraordinary occasion than having Peter Jackson release a brand-new trailer for the much-anticipated 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'?

Thanks to the new 'Hobbit' iOS app, a new series of images from the hotly anticipated film have migrated online for your viewing pleasure. Although most of them are character stills and portraits, one of them reveals where the first film of the trilogy will conclude. Spoilers lurk ahead for those who haven't read the original novel!

So we're exceptionally curious about 'The Hobbit' films now that Peter Jackson and company have decided to transform two pictures into three. We have no idea if this was a good decision, or just a chance to take advantage of audiences that fell in love with the first three films. What we do know are the titles of the trilogy and their release dates.

Every time there's a new advance in cinema tech, it often comes at a price. In most cases that price is directly transferred onto the viewer. Those fearing that seeing 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' in its original 48fps frame rate would have to drop more cash on their tickets can breath a sigh of relief. Warner Brothers isn't charging more... yet.

What are we to make of 'The Hobbit'? Or, rather, what are we to make of the upcoming 'The Hobbit' trilogy, which will extend JRR Tolkien's three hundred page book into a presumably nine hour experience comparable to the 'Lord of the Rings' films in scope? Although everyone has an opinion (because this is the internet), we can at least all agree that that we're all pretty excited to see what Peter Jackson and his team of geniuses will deliver. To further whet your appetite, a slightly revised version of the trailer for the first film 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' has made its way online.
