The fate of the potential 'Mortal Instruments 2,' to be adapted from the second installment of Cassandra Clare's young-adult books, 'City of Ashes,' was up in the air after the faltering box office numbers of the first film. But even though Constantin Films had shut down production on the sequel for the time being, fans have nothing to fear, as it looks like it is back on track. But why the change of heart?
The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes
'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' came out less than three weeks ago, but box office-wise (at least domestically) it's done. Having made less than $30 million stateside, that number is less than half of the film's production budget. So it's no surprise that production company Constantin Films is delaying the start of the sequel 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes.'
The cast and director of 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' will return largely intact for the already-in-development sequel, 'City of Ashes,' and it looks like they'll find some new company in Sigourney Weaver.
