The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

In 2014, Jimmy Fallon replaced Jay Leno to become the sixth host of NBC’s long-running ‘Tonight Show’ franchise. Fallon moved the series back to New York after decades in California, and brought along the Roots and Steve Higgins, his house band and announcer from his tenure on ‘Late Night.’ Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’ is known for its friendly atmosphere and viral videos. And here’s a fun drinking game: Take a shot any time Jimmy Fallon laughs at something a guest says.

Last week saw an unusual interruption in Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, as the host canceled a week’s worth of shows over a reported family emergency. Fallon’s mother Gloria had passed on November 4, for which the normally-goofy comedian returned Monday night with a heartfelt address of his most beloved audience member.

In these bleak times, pleasant distractions have become a commodity; we’ll take all the joy we can get from wherever we can get it — like Michael Shannon singing his karaoke go-to song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Relieved though we are to have all those Jon Snow shenanigans behind us on Game of Thrones, we’ll admit that stars and producers did an admirable job clinging to the barely-there secrecy of Kit Harington’s return. Well, all except Harington himself, perhaps, who apparently spoiled the good news to a police officer in exchange for getting off with a warning.

When you’re out promoting a movie, you’re often asked to do a lot of things, most of them pretty silly. With the amount of press the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was being asked to do, there were asked to do a lot of silly things, none perhaps as silly as going on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and singing a medley of Star Wars music a cappella. But the entire cast — including Harrison Ford! — actually commits, and it actually turns out to pretty fun.

As a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams revealed yet another tiny tidbit about the upcoming mega-blockbuster. Responding to the question “Do you have time to do anything else? Or see...?” from host Jimmy Fallon, Abrams explained that he recently saw the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, where he bumped into the show’s star and creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda joked that if Abrams needed any new music for the famous Star Wars cantina, he would gladly write it, little realizing that Abrams actually had a scene in his movie that was a bit of an homage to the classic cantina scene. So Abrams offered the challenge to Miranda, who accepted. Then Abrams and Miranda worked on the music together.

Have you ever watched The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and thought to yourself, “Man, I would love to play Battleship with celebrities and occasionally fall over things and suffer a string of comical minor injuries?” Well good news! Universal announced yesterday that starting in 2017, you’ll be able to Trip Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon at a brand new attraction at Universal Studios Florida. On The Tonight Show, Fallon said his ride would be like Universal’s wildly popular Harry Potter attractions “except instead of Harry Potter, it’s me, and instead of Hogwarts, it’s New York City.”
