The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Last week saw an unusual interruption in Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, as the host canceled a week’s worth of shows over a reported family emergency. Fallon’s mother Gloria had passed on November 4, for which the normally-goofy comedian returned Monday night with a heartfelt address of his most beloved audience member.

The “Peak TV” problem is an endless one, and streaming service after streaming service seems to spin off its own channel and packages. NBC’s Seeso at least had a more specific comedy focus, but is now confirmed to be shutting down, leaving numerous shows homeless.

Note to all actors: If Jimmy Fallon says to you “I’m not going to ask you about spoilers,” run in the other direction.

When you’re out promoting a movie, you’re often asked to do a lot of things, most of them pretty silly. With the amount of press the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was being asked to do, there were asked to do a lot of silly things, none perhaps as silly as going on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and singing a medley of Star Wars music a cappella. But the entire cast — including Harrison Ford! — actually commits, and it actually turns out to pretty fun.

As a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams revealed yet another tiny tidbit about the upcoming mega-blockbuster. Responding to the question “Do you have time to do anything else? Or see...?” from host Jimmy Fallon, Abrams explained that he recently saw the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, where he bumped into the show’s star and creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda joked that if Abrams needed any new music for the famous Star Wars cantina, he would gladly write it, little realizing that Abrams actually had a scene in his movie that was a bit of an homage to the classic cantina scene. So Abrams offered the challenge to Miranda, who accepted. Then Abrams and Miranda worked on the music together.

On The Tonight Show, Fallon said his ride would be like Universal’s wildly popular Harry Potter attractions “except instead of Harry Potter, it’s me, and instead of Hogwarts, it’s New York City.”
