Once the nostalgia abated, FOX’s X-Files revival pretty quickly started to sour fans by its awkward mix of mythology and stand-alone episodes, as well a cliffhanger ending that immediately demanded resolution. FOX’s 2016 X-Files finale will leave us all in the lurch on Mulder and Scully’s future, so why not explore their past? Like, way past? That’s right, it’s teen Mulder and Scully to the rescue in a pair of 2017 novels, as FOX gets thirsty for that sweet, sweet YA money.

All eyes will be on The X-Files to deliver a strong finale of its 2016 revival, given its uncertain future, and uneven run to date, and “My Struggle II” is at least off to a good start. Less well-off is Mulder, who seems to have taken a beating in the first real clip from Monday’s mythology-laden closer.

FOX’s The X-Files revival still has but two standalone hours to go before returning to a mythology focus in time for its final, cliffhanger-y episode of 2016, but why wait? Ahead of Monday’s “Home Again,” sneak a peek at Mulder and Scully’s never-ending investigation in the first scene from season (series?) finale “My Struggle II”!

A comparatively short run and split mythology-standalone balance gave an inkling FOX’s X-Files revival might not offer the kind of closure fans have hoped after twenty years, and it may be longer yet before we have any real answers. X-Files creator Chris Carter confirms the revival series will end on a cliffhanger, but what format might pick up the ball down the line?
