The most recent attempt to bring Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan into the modern movie era didn’t quite garner keep Shadow Recruit in the spotlight, so where better to go than TV? Networks are reportedly competing for a new series based on the CIA super-analyst, as envisioned by LOST alum Carlton Cuse and Michael Bay.

Paramount has released the first 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' trailer, a prequel to the established Jack Ryan stories that previously featured the likes of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in the title role. But now Chris Pine is up at the plate.

Coming on the heels of the unfortunate news that author Tom Clancy passed away last night, the first poster for 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' -- inspired by the character created by Clancy -- has been revealed. The poster for the film, which stars Chris Pine in the Ryan role, prominently features Clancy's name -- seems like a pretty fitting tribute to the late author.

Tom Clancy, the hugely successful and prolific author behind the Jack Ryan series of books and multiple video game franchises, died at a hospital last night in Baltimore at the age of 66. His publisher confirmed the news to the New York Times but no cause of death has been announced.

It seems that Paramount is taking a page out of 'The Avengers' notebook by casting Kevin Costner in not one, but two Tom Clancy adaptations as the same character. First up is the Kenneth Branagh Jack Ryan reboot, and then the Christopher McQuarrie adaptation of 'Without Remorse' -- the latter of which is eyeing Tom Hardy to lead.

‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ video game series seems like an untapped market for filmmakers. So it’s little surprise to hear that at least two major movie studios have initiated conversations with Ubisoft for the rights to convert the cinematic game experience to the big screen.
