Top Gun 2 has been in development for years and years and years (and…you get it), but it finally prepared for take-off last year as Justin Marks began working on a script for the sequel — although not much else is known about the project, other than a hope that Tom Cruise will return to reprise the role of Maverick. According to the CEO of Skydance, that’s happening.

No one has ever been shy about putting Tom Cruise’s apparent death wish front and center whenever it’s time to promote a new Mission: Impossible movie. Like with previous entries in the series, most of the chatter surrounding Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation has revolved around the myriad of ways the franchise’s leading man put his life on the line for our entertainment. The new trailer puts many of his craziest stunts front and center, including that still-jaw-dropping shot of Cruise clinging to the the side of an airplane as it takes off. The movie’s message is clear: this man almost died for you. Reward him with strong box office receipts.
On the heels of that incredible new Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation trailer, Paramount has just dropped a new TV spot to get you even more excited for the return of Ethan Hunt & Co. As Jeremy Renner’s Brandt says, this might be their last mission (ha, yeah, sure), so Ethan better make it count. Good news: it looks like he totally does.
By now, you’ve probably seen or heard about the crazy scene in Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation where Tom Cruise actually hung outside of a cargo plane as it took off, dangling from the door as it ascended into the sky. It’s pretty nuts, but if you think that’s all that Rogue Nation has to offer, wait until you hear this. Tom Cruise filmed an underwater scene for the movie, where he had to hold his breath for over six minutes...because it’s all one single take.
The new Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation trailer doesn’t offer up anything drastically different from the usual Mission: Impossible movie — Tom Cruise, shadowy government agents, an elegantly dressed woman kicking ass, insane stunts, an improbable task — but it does all those things (and does them all so well), it’s hard to not get excited for the upcoming fifth installment.
Tom Cruise is reuniting with his Edge of Tomorrow (no, we will not call it anything else) director Doug Liman for the upcoming ‘80s crime film Mena, which has already begun shooting in Georgia. Several names have joined the cast, including Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons and X-Men: First Class star Caleb Landry Jones, as Universal has also formally announced a release date.
Rejoice, Tom Cruise fans and dads everywhere! Jack Reacher, Cruise’s exceedingly satisfying adaptation of Lee Child’s popular literary hero, is getting a sequel. Deadline reports that Cruise will return for Jack Reacher 2, and in doing so will reteam with The Last Samurai director Ed Zwick and producer Marshall Herskovitz. Zwick and Herskovitz will reportedly rewrite the existing Jack Reacher 2 script by Richard Wenk, and Zwick will ultimately direct the film.
Mission: Impossible is a pretty action-packed film. But, for all its action, would you believe that Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hawke never once fires a gun? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to check out the rest of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which focuses on the original Mission: Impossible!
When the Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation trailer debuted over the weekend everyone — rightfully — got very excited. Tom Cruise is hanging off the side of an actual plane! Audiences weren't the only ones who were excited. Paramount was so bullish on the film, they moved it up from a December release date (where it would've faced stiff competition from Star Wars: The Force Awakens) to July. But, the future wasn't always this rosy for Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible franchise. It was only 9 years ago this summer that Paramount essentially fired Cruise from his own franchise, terminated his production deal and ushered him off the lot.
Just yesterday, we got our first real taste of Mission: Impossible 5 via a one-minute teaser trailer, but you should probably hold onto your seats because today brings the full trailer with even more Tom Cruise spy action and intrigue. Officially titled Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, the fifth installment in the franchise sees Ethan Hunt and the crew going up against a team of what are essentially anti-IMF agents, put together to bring Hunt’s organization down.
