Tom Cruise to Lead a 'Magnificent Seven' Remake?

It's easy to get angry about a remake, but it's harder to get angry about a remake of a remake. Especially a remake of something that's been remade several times. Word is that MGM has Tom Cruise attached to head up a new version of 'The Magnificent Seven,' a film that was based on Akira Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai.'

'Rock of Ages' star Tom Cruise, who turns 50 in July, celebrated the milestone by appearing in next month's issue of Playboy.
No no, not as a model (though wouldn't that be unique) but as an interview subject, talking about his family, his religious beliefs, and having a stable of high-powered attorneys ready to attack.

With his off-screen demeanor calming down a bit, he's revived his career (see: 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol') and he's back on top of the Hollywood mountain, especially with his upcoming role in 'Rock of Ages.' In this installment of Sibling Revivalry, Lindsay and I tackle reader Alex’s suggestion – the beloved 1986 Tony Scott classic ‘Top Gun.’
Lindsay was far less trepidatious about this one. Probably because it stars a hunky cast, most notably: young and spritely versions of Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards.
Turns out, she didn’t just see past the film’s “cheesy” exterior, hunky pilots and Iceman’s “Jersey Shore blowout” to enjoy some of its underlying themes, she also dropped some major knowledge on me regarding the way films affected her adolescence. Without further ado, here’s our conversation after my little sister’s first viewing of ‘Top Gun’…26 years after its release.
