Tracy Morgan’s 2014 accident wrought much more immediate concerns than his FXX TV deal, but with the revered SNL alum and 30 Rock star officially back in rotation, Morgan is returning to past projects. TBS has officially snagged Morgan’s full series commitment with Jordan Peele for a new half-hour comedy.

It’s been some time since Tracy Morgan first started putting together an FX comedy, a development process tragically marred by his infamous accident, though FX heads insisted they’d wait for the beloved SNL star. Now, Morgan has finally set a new FX comedy to producer and star in, joined by Key & Peele alum Jordan Peele.

As shown in the trailers for The Night Before, Jonathan Levine's latest film centers on best friends played by Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie, who attempt to have the most booze-soaked, drug-fueled final Christmas hurrah before their responsibilities get in the way. But there's a little more to the plot than just that. MTV has released the NSFW opening sequence from the upcoming comedy, which features some poetic narration from Tracy Morgan and sets up the film's premise.

After years of struggling to find the right director and — more importantly — the right actor for the Richard Pryor biopic, the film is finally on its way to production, with Lee Daniels at the helm. Back in August, Mike Epps was confirmed for the role of the late Pryor, but the film may be close to casting another iconic comedian as Tracy Morgan is reportedly in talks to play Redd Foxx.

Every time an SNL alumni returns to the host the show, they are often granted the chance to dust off characters and recurring sketches. Sometimes, the results can be a little sad. Sometimes, the results can be funny and get your nostalgia pumping into overdrive. Tracy Morgan returning to the character of Brian Fellow was the definitely the latter...even though one of his co-stars did steal the sketch right out from under him.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about Morgan’s return, and I can’t even imagine how nervous / excited he feels. Yesterday’s horrid SNL news aside, this weekend will bring one of the most anticipated outings of the year, as alumni Tracy Morgan returns to the SNL stage after 2014's debilitating accident. As we saw at the Emmys, Tracy is still Tracy, getting everyone pregnant, and mistaking Bobby Moynihan for Horatio Sanz, as one does.
