It may not have the fanfare of its predecessor, but Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender is nonetheless back for Season 2 this very Friday, and looking pretty divided, at that. Our first clips from the new season sees the disparate team members exploring some strange new territory, including underwater worlds, and … a giant pile of garbage. Onward!

Netflix borrowed a few pages from The Legend of Korra to make Voltron: Legendary Defender an impressive success for the streaming network, and Season 2 looks to be building on that well. There’s new heroes, new villains and new worlds in the first official trailer for Season 2, ahead of a January premiere.

When Universal bought DreamWorks Animation back in August, the studio came with a bunch of prospective projects to sort through. One of these, which has been in development for a while, is a live-action Voltron movie started by Jeffrey Katzenberg when he was heading DreamWorks. As it turns out, Universal is into the idea, and now the movie officially has a script penned by David Hayter of X-Men fame.

Netflix managed to form a towering achievement with its Korra-infused Voltron: Legendary Defender update, and Season 2 is already gearing up to reassemble. Ahead of New York Comic-Con, see for yourself in the first Season 2 trailer and photo.

Let’s face it, Netflix’s already-forgiving standards and the required turnaround of animation already gave Voltron: Legendary Defender a strong shot at returning the five lions for Season 2, but there’s better news yet.
