Following the recent cancellation of '666 Park Avenue,' and the even-more-recent scrap of 'Weird Desk" based on thematic similarities to the upcoming 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series, ABC's next effort will bring the dead back to life with 'The Returned.' The project, produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, is based on a novel by Jason Mott, but will ABC manage to make 'The Returned' stay?
A week or so ago, we were surprised to hear that ABC had picked up to series a sci-fi procedural named 'Weird Desk' for summer 2013, one who's premise seemed awfully familiar to fans of such investigative series as 'Fringe' and 'The X-Files.' Well, it seems we weren't the only ones to find the presence a little too similar, as ABC has decided to shelve the project for now. However, it wasn't the other series that felt too similar, but rather ABC's upcoming Joss Whedon-helmed 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series!
There were many that bemoaned that 'Fringe' seemed to borrow from the classic 'X-Files' set up of an opposite-sex team investigating the paranormal, but across five seasons 'Fringe' managed to differentiate itself in ways that have come to make it one of the more beloved sci-fi series in years.
